Just so that you are all aware, the wording on this item is not our own... SFS sent us a press release which our data inputter has copied straight off an e-mail from SFS to the website!

My point isnt with r tech, its sfs. Its them that put the b5 tip down and say there product flows better. Clearly sfs havnt done tests. Im glad awsome dont like the wording

It appears SFS have just hashed together several posts from various forums and fired it out as a press release.

Their product is good, their marketing could do with some, er, refinement. Shame their wording doesn't flow as well as their TIP lol.

At last something we can agree on i think sfs didnt realise that b5 has such a big fan base also im glad that r tech have said the b5 tip is better for higher flowing applications, i know bill first made the tip for hybrid turbos. Rant over

We managed to get the tip on a car we knew to be running 100%,

The SFS tip managed to gain 4bhp/16lbft more power vs the badger5 3” tip and took the peak maf reading from 233gs to 235gs. Plus the turbo spooled faster and made the peak power gains around 200rpm sooner.

Attached are the dyno graph back to back with the badger 5 tip, and the MAF reading logs back to back so you can see where the SFS tip make the gains.

Its making better peak power due to the tip getting smaller towards the turbo inlet end.

The car spec is an AMK 1.8T with full turbo back exhaust system, FMIC running a stage 2 custom.

I had an email from SFS yesterday regarding the thread, content below

I have read the 6 pages of posts with interest and would just like to issue a reply. We were approached back in June to develop a 1 piece 80mm TIP as some people didn't want the version currently on the market due to the fact it was made from several parts and people not wanting the alloy intake section. We fitted the 1st prototype in July and road tested for 3000 miles, in meantime we also sent one to several companies for dyno testing. Just after this the V2 version came out, SFS have never intended to berate the B5 TIP. All we have done is forward the dyno results we received to dealers and sent to people who asked for the results. Our hose is a 4 ply with wire strengthening and we specialise in the hose design and manufacture, we are not dyno operators so rely on others to test for us, we have received dyno graphs and airflow tests figures which we published. I don't know where Bill buys his from so this isn't aimed at his but in response to the country of origin remark, unfortunately it does make a difference, they may 'look' the same but imported hose from the far east contains a far lower % of silicone and that loss is made up with fillers, ours are 100% pure silicone and not a 25% diluted version so retain all the technical qualities of silicone. This is not intended to mislead people or be playground tactics, Bill is happy with his design and we are happy with ours, it's up to you guys to choose which you want to buy.

As for copying then I don't see why people are getting so heated about this, if I wanted I could rant to maybe 12 companies for copying me, let me explain.. before joining SFS I worked at samco for 8 years and developed almost 1/2 the VAG products available including the 150/180/210/225 TIP's which were much better than OE. Then every man and his dog brought one out claiming to be better, no stress, that's just a way of life and the market. So apologies to anyone that thinks we have mislead them, we just acted upon requests and developed a product people wanted, choice isn't a bad thing.

I really think people are splitting hairs at this stage with this thread, there will be minor difference in airflow with the 2 TIPS, if you ran both TIPS on the Dyno each time they would have a different result.

And BTW a tapered edge will aid spool, boost itself is caused by a restriction to airflow.

Has anybody stopped to think that these TIP's are running the turbo charger well outside it efficiency range and off the compressor chart in most cases on the top end. This does not bother me as a turbo is now a consumable item for me, but it does affect the longevity of the already old in most cases K04.

as said choice is good , will bring prices down for us members and healthy competition will only the bring the best out of each products no doubt forge will make there own , then probably toyosport and others.

Nobody is bothered about the fact that there is now a choice of 3" T.I.P's avaliable and 'copying' is also not the issue. If anything I think we can all agree that it's a good thing as it give us more choice, the variety of colours and price to name just two.
The issue here is the fact that a new product has been introduced to the market claiming to be better than the T.I.P from Bill and the basis for these claims is one Dyno sheet that shows limited information on one run for each T.I.P done at different times on different days and using the V1 of Bill's T.I.P.

Exactly.
Its not been tested anywhere near as thoroughly as mine.. and their comparisons against mine were to the V1, not the 23% larger V2..... yet this is how they choose to compare in selling theirs above mine. I think everyone can see that for what it is.

The before/after tests I did originally on the V1 were ironically on an ***** mapped S3.. so no one could say I was using any "mapping trickery" to show a difference. It was bolt on before after logs/dyno's and the results are well known.

What is not made clear is the sample/example is a car tuned to the TIP, which even more makes the comparisons ridiculous. I retuned Danes S3 after I did the 3" TIP tests, and go figure, got more torque/power everywhere afterwards when tuning for the improved intake.. That was not a TIP test, so I have never published that data in respect of the TIP.. It was remapped.. so not a simple test of TIP before/after. Nick has tuned to the SFS tip..

anyhows.. it is what it is..
I could mod the tip tools to make the billet transition in silicon, replacing it and reducing the costs significantly... However, thats a design compromise I rejected from the outset as smooth, seamless internal path (no turbo intake step!) was what I wanted to maintain.


And note to SFS for their comment, your silicon may be "pure" but your approach to this type of selling most certainly is'nt, nor accurate.
The quality of materials of the B5 TIP are of high quality, same as Forge branded hoses.. Country of Origin, is irrelevant... and typical BS comment. I am sure you like watching your non UK TV, calling on your non UK iphone etc etc. The quality of components is not dependant of the country it came from.. Too easy to use that in some sort of defence of UK manufacture. (which I am extremely pro, billet part is made in UK for me).

I really don't this think is the correct platform, its seems to me that their seems to be a very one sided story/slandering going on here and its a bit to personal.SFS to my knowledge have not directly slandered other peoples products but yet its fine if SCN'ers direcly call out the other product and try to tar it with a bad name.

I really don't get this, moutain out of a mole hill.

Maybe if SCN hadn't banned R Tech then we would know more about tests carried out....

Knowing Nicks attention to detail I don't believe that the log posted by Awesome is ALL there is to show, looks like a simplified version for a non technical audience.

indeed nick at r tech is a perfectionish , my 2nd cupra he mapped he spend all day on on just to get it right it made 215 bhp in morning annd 245 ft/lbs on with stock hardware but was convince it could get more . he took the intercooler off and cleaned (at no extra cost) and smoked tested the car and found vacuum pipe split and replaced(at no extra charge) and at the end of day he got 223 bhp and 257 ft/lbs with standard intercooler and stock exhaust all for just £150

This is pathetic IMO!!! Badger 5 owners don't like the fact that a cheaper maybe better tip has arrived! END OF! Both tips are as good as eachothers apart from very very minor differences .
