i've started to run on opti. with my LCR and it's defo smoother and more responsive especially over morrison's regular UL, i thought about BP ultimate but at £1 a ltr - not going to happen! so i'll be sticking to me cheap ass opti. @ 91.9p a ltr........if we do get vpower do you think opti. will go down in price a wee bit??? or will it just take over from it???

That's a good point .... I think the VPower will only be availible from the stations where the boards and pumps have been modified to show MORE than 99.99p

i work in a shell garage in the north east and according to my boss optimax will be rebranded shortly.possibly v-max like in europe.will be replaced as wont be the need for 3different unleaded fuels.use tesco 99ron meself.cheaper and seems to give me more top end pull.

I had my first taster of V Power today. It's super stuff, expensive but IMO well worth it. I think for n/a engines a couple of tankfulls are needed to notice any effect, but turbo powered engines should adapt immediately. Mine revs to the red-line in a flash, could'nt believe it and was trying hard to wipe the stupid grin off my face to passers by lol

I doubt there will be a market for it not in the UK with fuel prices so high at the end of the day would you buy bp ultimate for 95p a litre, optimax for 91p a litre or buy this V power at say 106p a litre not many people will opt for the latter when the other 2 are available, perhaps if fuel prices were lower then yes maybe

Shell plan to increase the octane rating of Optimax this year, they didn't say by how much, what price or when this year - but they are doing it (email from Shell UK). There is a market for it (cue Scooby, EVO, Skyline, etc. owners) but all depends on price, I guess Tesco 99RON has something to do with it.

Also may be of use to TDi owners, but in EVo this month they comment on the forth coming Optimax Diesel which is due in the uk with in 2 yrs. It uses the Gas to liquid cetane in the mix which Devonmikey explained to me the other night. So should be a lot better than the standard diesel.

apparently already available in 5 euro countries.

A few bits of information:

1) Tescos 99 ocatane fuel is supplied by Shell and if its successful Shell will be selling it too (And thats probably the upcoming VMax, VPower rebrand

2) Optimax 'goes off' just like ALL FUEL does. Tehre was an article in one of the mags the other day about this.

Cheers

BenS1, this sunject of what Tescos actually has been on lots of forums.

It is different to v-max. in fact i thought it was a 97 octane fuel but due to haveing a higher percentage of bio fuel (fuel made from Biomass) mixed with it the ethanol content was higher pushing it up to 99 octane. may want to check this out.

But pretty sure its not Shell who supply it.

I'm sure it IS Shell that supply it. I'll have to try and dig out where it was written, but its also been written on here before too.

I know its not the same as VMax/VPower abroad, but it could well be branded VMax/VPower in the UK when Shell start selling it at their own stations. VMax/VPower in the UK doesn't have to be the same as VMax/VPower in Europe.

Does anyone running on Tesco's 99 have any issues if they have to switch to Optimax or any other fuel?

It's just that I currently use Optimax and would consider giving Tesco's a try (mainly for cost reasons as am very happy with Optimax). However, as I could not rely on always getting to a Tesco's 99 pump (though there is one fairly local to me), just wondered if you switch to Optimax, Ultimate or lower octane fuel does performance suffer for a tank or two? It's just that when Optimax supplies were short and I had to use ordinary stuff the car ran like a lame dog - at the same time when I first tried Optimax the revs used to race from cold until the ECU had adapted. Don't want to have to keep putting the car through that - hence my hesitation over trying Tesco's?

i have been runing tescos for the last 2 weeks and have to say its better then the bp 95ron i have been using :-o
on the m/way today it picked up so quick in 6th :D
only thing is i am about 10miles from a tesco with the 99 ron:doh:

rumour has it bp have altered how they have created bp ultimate ... apparently it now ever better says radio advert

bp ultimate stage 2 if you will

shell are replacing optimax with vpower later this year whilst esso are still kicking out 99 ron petrol at tesco stations...

in germany they have like 95ron, 98ron, and 100ron vpower

i noticed a diffrence and i had all my luguage and 3 people... soo yeah it was worth it.. also i have used 120ron fuel and that really kicks!!! :-o

lets hope shell release a 100ron fuel in the UK soon....
