also i tried the tesco stuff for 1 tank (when the prices were around 97p) i was ready to run out of fuel, and tbh i was very suprised by it..very smooth. i would use it now if not for the fact it costs more than v power....

There is a real but relatively slight effect- read the manual as to power output which does stipulate that the quoted figures do depend upon the fuel used."98 or 95 (with slight power loss)" P271 in my 07 manual.

It can only make a real difference if the cars ecu is set up to take advantage of higher octane properties. Petrol flap should say what octane is adviseable. It's take the car's ecu thousands of miles to calibrate it automatically.
Obviously remaps alter the ecu so you can have them set up to run on various fuel types.
Example big S4 twin turbo's can run at 440bhp standard fuel and 500+ with race fuel.
Its all aout pairing the ecu with the fuel or there will be next to no performance benefit.

Turbos were on cars before the 70's mate. Go check out youtube.
I have owned many cars with turbos both petrol and diesel powered.
In fact I did a turbo conversion on an F reg mini 1000
Also one of my more memorable turbo cars was a Mitsubishi Gallant 2.0 Turbo on a Y reg.
There was exactly the same sort of debate back in the day about 2 star and 4 star and then unledded.
Exactly, how some peeps can detect a difference with just a tenners worth just adds to the plasebo effect reasoning.
i only said 1970 cos you said you have been driving over 20 odd years......dont care what anyone says, in my car it didnt wanna go anywhere on that fuel..it had no guts, was lumpy, and boost was generally weaker....my car isnt setup for 98 either, but when i go to stage 2 i may get it setup just for 98.....
the 10 pound fuel is getting burned isnt it....got nothing to do with how the car thinks it is 95 or 98.....if i put my foot down and it feels crap then the fuel is crap....its common sense

My current Leon is standard and has not been on a dyno, I have given Vpower a go on my old mk3 Ibiza Cupra that was remapped and had intake and exhaust mods. I have used the Vpower diesel in a 1.9 CDTI Astra SRI and a 1.7 CDTI Astra Club too.
I'm not skint by any means and I'm not tight but I just don't see or feel a difference.
I didn't ever say that there was no actual difference (see post 10) I reckon that there may be about a 2BHP gain from using it. I just think that if you can detect 2BHP extra on even a 100BHP car you should be on Britian's got tallent.

stick a £10 of green Avgas in and then see what difference the Octane makes
seriously though it is personal choice thanks to the free world we live in but explaining to many a friend or foe i always suggest run a couple of tanks at least of the top stuff and then go back to your normal fuel
after that if you reckon it's worth the extra £5 a tank then you will pay it if you don't then you won't, not rocket science, flying a man to the moon however . . . .

Couldnt notice any difference on my standard motor either.
On the dyno the car made 11hp less when I didnt have it filled with vpower with just the map
Yes Flapper,this is what I have done and my findings are that for me it's not worth it.

dude, forget the power, drivabiity is better on the good stuff
power can be different but it needs to be in a lot higher scale of motor to notice real differences circa 1200/1500bhp
drivability is pretty much the reason i personally use it plus the mk2 gets stroppy with me if i dont

Drivability eh? this is getting more and more laim. Does the ECU need to adapt to the extra octane to produce more power or not?

Iv got a question, i don't have any experience with petrol or performance fuel, but would putting Millers additive in with standard supermarket diesel give the same results as using just vpower? I know that on the bottle it states it can increase the diesel cetane by up to 4 numbers, is cetane in diesel similar to the octane in petrol?
Is it just different octane and cetane numbers between the standard and performance fuels?
