I don't know much about alternatives but I can certainly say that dynamat really works and is very easy to work with. I have used unbranded stuff from ebay before and it was stiffer, thinner, didn't stick as well and I didn't notice much of a difference in sound.

Roof flashing tape does work but you need to use like 3 or 4 layers opposed to 1 layer of dynamat sheet. Its certainly a lot cheaper, but a lot more effort required to achieve the same level of sound proofing/deadening.

Right, I've now managed to get it up and running (the sub anyway), I ran out of time last night and couldn't hook the front speaker amp up, but it is all screwed into place.

I started with this:

Those speakers went into my old car in place of the rainbows I removed when I sold it! (£20 from ebay!)

I ended up with this (I've not had a chance to hoover the boot and clean my crap out yet):

I will get some pictures up soon, it's all standard stuff really, the only different bit was my false wall. I installed it on the drivers side of the boot, using the front luggage hook and carpet pin to secure the first mount. Then removed the side carpet and secured another mount towards the rear of the car. I fed all of the wires through the plastic panel/section (the bit holding the parcel shelf) round the seat belt and down to underneath the back seat. I then connected the earth wire to a freshly drilled hole in the chassis in the boot. (there are a few already installed ground points but didn't want to make the ground too long.)

I then cut the board to fit the side profile of the boot, carpeted it and screwed it on. You'll need to mark out where you want your amps and make holes for the wires to pop through before you fix it to the car.

Then I ran the wires down the car to the head unit and battery and doors.

There is a good speaker removal guide on here (for a toledo - do a search) it shows you how to remove the door card, inner door panel etc. to allow you to install dynamat and your speakers.

Then I just shoved the sub in and connected the wiring! Overall I'm quite pleased, it looks tidy and is very secure! The idea is that the sub can be removed and I can use the car as a van with the seats down. I can also get at my spare wheel etc quite easily. Just need to tweak all of the levels and think about what new sub to get!

I know it's not much of a guide but please feel free to ask questions!

Plus I'll get the pictures up tomorrow, which will make things clearer.

how are you finding those rainbow speakers? i used to run them in the front of mine but i think they sound dreadful so moved them to the back doors. still dont like them to be honest looking for another pair of pyle drivers to match the fronts now there the dogs!!!

I think they're pretty good for £125! Better than the focal V1's I had before IMO. I knock the treble back a tad as the tweeter locations in the Leon make them a bit bright for my liking but other than that they're good! The amp I'm running them with is not working hard at all so maybe that is helping.

Haven't heard "Pyle Drivers" so couldn't possibly comment on how good they are....

that wouldnt happen to be my old MTX amp would it?? I think I still have the 4002 in my garage.

Just spotted this acky! Ha. It sure is, and it's up for sale! Just sold my Genesis amp as I've taken out the system.
