Slipping clutch - TDI Sport

My last car was an ST170 bought it from a dealer - two years old, 1 careful lady owner and 25k on the clock. Clutch went completely after a year (by which time I'd got it up to 30k) and I had to fork out £1100 for a new clutch and fly wheel[:@]

Can only assume the careful lady owner was a complete tool.

TBH, I wouldnt have paid... one careful lady owner and a two year old car, shouldnt mean clutch slip!

didnt wanna show u up ;)

Let me tell you a true story about "one careful lady owner"...

One day, my mum and dad were at home. Suddenly, throughout the house they smell a terrible burning smell. Mum panics, thinking that the tumble dryer is overheating, and dad switches off every appliance he can find. But still the smell persists.

Eventually the smell gets so bad they go outside to investigate where it's coming from, and discover that the source of the smell is their next-door neighbour's car. The "careful lady owner" is stood next to it looking worried.

Mum and dad and the neighbour live at the top of a very steep hill. It turns out that the "careful lady owner", whilst returning home, had to stop half-way up the hill to wait for a delivery lorry to move out of the way. Instead of applying the hand-brake, she held it on the clutch. She stayed there, balancing throttle and clutch for ten minutes, completely oblivious of the torture she was inflicting on her clutch. She really didn't know that this was a bad thing to do.

I visited mum and dad three days afterwards, and the car happened to be parked on the driveway. Standing next to it even after all that time, the stench of burnt friction lining was still overpowering. Gawd knows how much further damage was done - warping of the flywheel, perhaps?

There really are some complete and utter numpties out there. It's enough to make you think twice about buying a second-hand car, regardless of mileage.
