SMF is soild metal so cannot in therory break but rattle when installed in your clutch/gearbox.
DMF is two metal discs held together with springs which remove the vibration from the gearbox and shift mechanism. Since diesel cars produce a lot of torque the DMF has been known to pull itself apart, you can tell when this is happening as you will get a vibration in the car since the DMF is no longer doing it`s job of removing the vibration. Millions of cars are fitted with DMF`s some of which break like any other car component, trouble is you only hear about the ones that break not the other 99.9% of the millions of cars that don`t get a problem with the DMF.

ahh rite cool thanks, learnin a lot of stuff off here, so really then theres no point in changinin it unless your going to get your torque really high then i assume? All sounds fun, i got my remap on wednesday and then gota RR at that SCN meet saturday. cant wait, 1st tuning mod on a car for me :) most i did on me escort (last car) was induction kit and all that did really was double my fuel consumption :s 240miles off £50 even when drove sensibly :S

Correct. Personally i wouldn`t even think about it unless you are running 230+ bhp and 360 + lb torque then i still wouldn`t bother. Running 330bhp and 440lb torque on my car and no DMF problems.

Who did the map then Dave?

by i got i mean its booked in for this wednesday, and that jamie guy whos number you gave me is doing it, hope it works out all rite or ill be cumin for ya :p haha.

Cheers for the PM gylnnd.

Just spoke to Dave @ DSB. Seems a proper decent bloke! He has beaten the price for a DMF & Labour hands down but doesnt have a price for the performance sachs clutch as he doesn't seem to fit non-oem parts.

So buying the clutch from somewhere like JBS, Awesome etc would take the price to £911 inc VAT/Fitting.

Roughly £75 saving from JBS doing the whole lot - which is a saving, just a shame I can't find a supplier that would sell me a performance sachs clutch for a lower price.

just had a throught, should i get a new DMF to get fitted as the car has done just short of 40k?

This is my dilema at the mo. All I can go by is if JBS tell me to change it or not - after they have taken off clutch and can see the flywheels condition.

Anyone know if flywheels wear? Or is it just a case of they become wobbly and need replacing?

I've also been told by a motor enthusiast who I deal with at work to change the flywheel even if it 'looks' ok - He says he has seen more than enough flywheels fail straight after a new or stronger clutch installed. Not sure if this is becasuse they have not 'bedded' in together.????.

I dont know enough a about transmssions to know what is going on.

No I didnt get the dmf and took a chance on the original being ok. If it wasn't I figured I could always order one for the next day from a dealer. I did order a new release bearing with the kit though which I think jabbasport offer anyway for £40ish.

Went out last night and clutch doesn't slip anymore

Don't understand........

Mine feels like it slips slightly in very wet weather, give it a big boot in top at <2000rpm when it's been pissing down and the revs climb 500-1000rpm instantly with not much acceleration.

Do the same thing when it's not so wet and all is fine.

Car is around 26500miles old now, all standard but healthy nonetheless....;)

Mine started slipping on the way home from Bell Auto's lol

Kept it for another few k miles or so, then got a Sachs racing clutch kit (supplied & fitted) from JBS - offer on at the time for £675.16 (usual price is £741.40).

Good news is that after the new clutch was fitted, I got Pete to give me a lot more aggressive map - had it about 8 months now (33k on the clock), and it's running like a dream :)

ChrisUK - New flywheel too?

Can't wait for 2mrw to get the SACHS full kit fitted - I really miss the power @ 2k RPM now, just hope my flywheel is ok, clutch has only been slipping for a week and I'm not using the turbo power to save it slipping till its snorted.

Flywheel was OK, no need for a new one.

I was going to swap to a SMF, but was advised not to (why did SEAT put a DMF in there in the 1st place ?).

Fab job by the lads at JBS (get a shortshifter fitted at the same time FOC as they are right in there anyway putting your new clutch in !!)
