Looking like it has the potential to be one of the best LCR's i’ve seen especially if you go BT in the future

Yes mate it's going to be fitted then taken back out And painted orange :)

I said this when I started putting mine in (same cage)

I soon realised, that once it was in, it was NEVER going to come out again, it took HOURS just to squeeze it into the car, you'll need to remove the steering wheel for sure, and ideally the gearstick too! and if it's not already gone, the head lining has to go as well.

When I realised how tight mine was going to be, I gave up on ever removing it and welded it to the roof strutcture at 6 different points to increase stiffness

This is the A-pillar gusset:

Then 2 tabs onto the top of the screen:

Then a small gusset that ties the cage into the original reinforced seatbelt mounting point:

Good luck mate! I can't wait to see if fitted!

make sure whoever fits it makes up proper boxes for the feet too, like these:

CAD (carbboard aided design) is essential for these!

Also, don't make the mistake I did first time around and leave the flimsy loom covering strip in like in this pic:

Drill the spot welds and rip it out like in this pic: (sorry to repost same pic)

If you want any more pics just let me know, I've got hundreds from my cage install.

Thanks mate thats helped out alot , I really don't want to remove the headlining and trim tbh so will do my very best to keep it in there, if it has to go then so be it ,

Those metal plate box sections you made all ready came with my cage mate so it's a case of getting them to fit , carpet is still staying in mine for sure tho , this is more road car than solid track car unlike yours lol , I won't be welding it to the roof , ideally I want the cage to be a bolt in so I can remove it , im hoping as I have more doors than you it will be a tad easier will try getting it in there when cars back

Thanks for your help on here And Facebook mate

I hate to say this Dan, but I think you're really going to struggle with this one!

The 'feet' that come with the cage are just about useless, they're 100% generic boxes that won't fit your shell in any way, they need so much trimming it's unreal, mine are the boxes that came with the cage, but they took a LOT of work to fit correctly, and they didn't come with enough metal either, I had to get some more sheet to close in all the sides.

Also, your carpet will have to be removed for the fitting, so if you want to keep it you'll need to remove it, then trim it and refit it after the cage is done, fitting the cage requires removal of all the tar sound deadening around the feet plates, and the metal to be cleaned up so you can weld, so be prepared to take the carpet out to install it, even if you're putting it back in afterwards.

As for the head lining, you're going to have some serious issues there, my cage is 2-3mm from the shell on the top corners of the main hoop, hard to see in the pics but it's properly tight:

f994a665.jpg

As for the front legs, they're jammed up solid against the shell, and needed a jack to get them into place, I also had to cut the tops off my A-pillar trims as there wasn't a hope in hell of them ever going back on, because the clips were cut off, I drilled and tapped an m5 thread into the pillar, and held my trim on with allen key bolts

Can just about see the bolts if you enlarge this pic, and possibly the next bit, which you might not like:

Now, brace yourself for this bit, as I think you're REALLY not going to like this:

f8bc9098.jpg

You've got to cut your glovebox lid up!

86fe0791.jpg

Sorry for all the bad news dude! hope it's not too much of a downer for you.

The thing to remember is, roll cages are for race cars, so they make no attempt to fit in around the standard luxury things like trim in a road car. You'd need a show cage for that.

It'll all be worth it at the end though, just think how awesome it's going to be!

The cage looks great mate gonna look sweet, really making me think about building a front part for mine...I just don't like the way it come down by the side of the steering wheel / glovebox, might build one to follow the pillars and go behind the dash.

Like prawn says the mounting boxes need serious work to get them fitting right... Not an easy job but it'll be worth it in the end.

As for getting the back part of the cage in i put it through the front passenger door, again really difficult. After doing it i would say get some cardboard and tape it to all the door shuts to protect the paintwork while you fumble around with the cage..... Its like a jigsaw puzzle without the box :D

Good luck bud, its gonna be amazing :D

Thanks Graham :) time will tell for the cage I'm working 3days in December then off until January :) so the cars going to get some serious work done to it have so much things to fit

Good news the cars in primer and going in for paint either Monday or Tuesday so my aim for when it's back is to get the wheels fitted drop the car on it's arse I have 8mm spacers for the front and either 3mm or 5mm to try out on the rear if the "stance" isn't how I want it I will use them , I'm going away next weekend so can't do much to it, will fit my new steering wheel If it comes ,the cage and seats will have to wait for a while tho , gutted I can't just bolt the seats in as I love them but won't be long , after the weekend the brakes will be getting fitted all round and new High temp fluid used ,then test fitting the cage and welding in the feet etc , getting so excited :)
