Sorry. Blumming LCR Brake pads AGAIN!

Hi all,
jujst got away with £306 at Emmer Green for a 40k service on the LCR. So not too bad, only things are new pads on front.

Ive searched the forum and found loads of pros and cons on pagid, minter green frost brakes, and choclately ones too..

But i didnt find what I really wanted to know:

Does anyone know where can I go to get a set fitted cheaper than a main dealer (im in Berkshire). ATS etc dont seem to be able to provide them.


How much cheaper can I get the pads for if I buy from somewhere other than Seat, they are quoting £130 - £150 for pads alone. How much can I get LCR pads for ? Will consider using the guide and fitting myself if the guide is still around.

Speak to adve in the IMG section he can do it cheaper. But if you want better stopping power speak to bill at Badger 5 as he can do ferrado (sp?) ones for £110 and there far better than the stock one, but you do lose your wear indicator (even tho mine never worked anyway!)

Or speak to me for the Galfer ones -down to my very last few sets and I doubt there will be any more available at the original price of £40.89 standard 1045s -delivered or fast road 1055's@ £60.93 delivered
both have VAG wear sensors.

Use this Guide and fit them your self, or pop over to Thatcham and I'll do them for a few tins of ruddles.

Ferrodo - highly recommended
Mintex - avoid
Galfer - never tried them
Carbon metallics - phenominal stopping power, but didn't ast me very long, and oh that dust!!
Stock Brembo - Go for the Ferrodo, as the Ferrodos bite better, fade less and last longer!! Oh, and the Ferrodo's are cheaper!

The Galfer 1055's I had on my Ibiza were good once warmed up, but tbh they weren't that much different to the Octy vRS pads I was running beforehand.

Galfer pads from Quattroman been on for 500 miles now! No difference in performance at all between standard fit ones from new and these! Except the price that is!

Yep

Rog has a good idea having used a fair few sorts like myself, do not buy from a dealer as they will rip you off.

A search will produce a more in depth account on our experiences with pads.

EBC greenstuff are = to Brembo OE from most accounts, from experience they stopped well and wore well too, I ran a set for around 14k before they started to get thin, few more than the OE pads.

Ferrodo's should be best bet and are the favoured pad of the moment.

Best advice is look where you use the car and do not buy a cheap set as you'll soon be replacing again.

Maybe I should type out a nice long account of all the pads I used, and save it on my computer for every time this question comes up!!

EBC Greenstuff - my only experience of these was on a moped but I went through quite a few sets, as they didn't last very long!! Also, each set of pads behaved differently to the last, most noticibly in terms of braking force. Never tried them on a car...

You might actually want 4 pairs of pads rather than 4..

And why are you sticking with the Bridgestones? Any particular reason?

As for the Bridgestones they've served me well and i've got good milage out of them.
