I have stripped the interior out of the car today to be sent off and looked at how poor the ibiza's sound proofing is, id like ideally to be able to do the car so the road noise is lower and help with the stereo too,

can anyone reccomend equipment to use, give me tips ie where to coat, help out free beer involved, ive looked but cant find anything for the mk3,

chris

you getting a retrim chris? surely you should just sound proof doors, booy, rear quarter etc? dont know too much on what stuff to use tbh.

once the dash is out, just line is with brownbread and make sure all the cables are tied in place.
if you want to go further, then take the carpet out and lay brownbread sound deadening along the floor, and behind all the trim.
i've just had all my trim out and cable tied everything in place. hoovered the car out, found 8 pens and £1.25p (lol) and then spray glued the carpet in place.
no more rattles :)
the dash is coming out next in mine and everything is getting tied in place!

not to clued up on sound proofing but i would imagine you would get good results from the stuff they use on instals should be pretty much the same thing. if you have a place local to you they may be able to sort you out...

dynomat is also good :) put a couple of layers of that. and then in the rear arches, (once you take the trim out you'll see a big gap) fill that with the foam stuff and see what you think then :)

id say go for dynamat extreme.youll be looking at 150 quid tops for the full car probs.maybe 200.

go over to talkaudio.co.uk and sign up to the forum.theyll help

you get loads of different stuff.brown bread as said above is cheaper that dynamat i think but not as good.also get second skin and max mat i think.loads out there.

I bought a kit for my Golf from these guys some years ago when they were known as BJ Acoustics
Noisekiller UK

The different materials were pre-cut for floorpan, doors, boot, bulkhead and under bonnet. Easy to fit (with the exception of the bulkhead bits that were a bit tricky to do with the engine in place) with instructions. I mucked up one bit and they sent me a large offcut of the self-adhesive foil-backed stuff free of charge. They can also do a fitting service if you book the vehicle in.

Seriously, get 8 or 10 metre's of Marley roofing felt, from B&Q / Focus etc (the felt is black, with its sticky side covered with a white plastic coating. Dont get the one with the gravel on though)

I've done two cars with my one roll, and still have some left.

Brown Bread and Dynamat are expensive. Very good, but very expensive.

Its something like this: http://www.focusdiy.co.uk/invt/183778

Mine had a green wrapper though iirc.

A very very good, cheaper alternative.

sound like a good idea forbez, might give this a go, did you just do your doorcards and boot?

Aint done the cupra yet.
My Old Fiesta,3 door, i did the door's and bootlid.

It just needs to be heated up a little, with say a hairdryer, for it to stick properly.

It changed the sould of the doors shutting, from a ping, to a nice solid sounding thud.

my friend has just removed all of his sound deadening in his type r and it is sooo loud, i personally think its awfull. looking to sound proof my boot and door cards though. cheers forbez for the info. :)

Around year and half ago me and my mate sound deadened his Corsa.

We used the secondskin mat and then the second skin sludge.

Awsome results, you can hear the difference when you tap the front panels and then the door panels, it literally sounds like the metal skin is super dense, it makes a hell of a difference to the noise adsorbing

And his system is 10x lounder than before

He has a progress thread on it... Progress thread

secondskin is the way forward :D

went into sextons today and they have all three brown bread dynamat and secondskin and he reccomended the dynamat extreme said it was immense

It is good, I dont doubt that, but think how small a section of dynamat is, and then think how much it would cost to do the car!

Maybe dynamat for the doors.

I'd check ebay for any bulk deals on Dynamat etc, places like sextons / halfords etc make a killing on it.

When fitting it, get yourself a small wall paper roller, like below, its narrow enough to fit into most gaps, and you can get good leverage and pressure for pushing the sound deadening, to ensure a good contact.
