My Altea came with 2 keys which I a assume is correct.

I gave the spare one to my misses and she came back and said the car wont start with it.
When I tried the key the coil symbol in the dashboard is flashing.
I think the key has not been programmed with the cars computer?????

Can I do this myself or do I need to take it to the dealer????
Cheers
Regards

Hello pantsdavis,

you're talking about both keys being radio controlled (rc), where only one (#2) won't work?
Assuming you have the spare key without rc (#3) as well, try the following:

Lock car -- open with #3 manually -- ignition on with #3 -- leave car and lock manually with #2 -- remove #2 from lock and press "close" via it's rc (indicators flash) -- press "open" on rc #2 for approx. 2-3 sec. until indicators flash a little longer and the doors unlock -- rc key should be coded by now.

No warranty ... it's the routine for adopting new keys, don't know if yours probably has a weak battery or won't communicate with the electr.immobilizer or some such ...

I presume he has one key with remote and one without.... maybe i'm mistaking.
The one not working is the one without remote on it.

The procedure you describe Klaus , it is for learning a new remote to the system and not coding the key to the ECU.

My assumption was, that - while in Germany it's just as you describe, 1 remote & 1 normal key with a new ALTEA - I learned that most of the owners over in the UK are rewarded with two remote keys.

But whatever ... you're right, the procedure is meant for learning rc-keys to the system.

Thanks Fellas just im a little confussed now:cartman:

I only have two keys(with 2 buttons) and they are they are both remote.

I do not have the third key without buttons.

Both Keys #1 and #2 will open and lock doors:)

but only #1 key will start the car:(

When I put the #2 key in the the ignition the coil light on the dash just flashes and the car fires up and stalls straight away
Confused please help as I need to give the wife one of the keys

The transponder embedded in your key that turns the immobaliser off has come unpaired with your ECU or is possibly faulty. This will require reprogramming by your dealer who will need to request a code from SEAT to enable them to do it. It can be done with Vagcom but the same code has to be requested from SEAT to do it so best take it to your nearest dealer and ask them to do it.
