speaker size

HI i know the rear speakers are 6 x 4's any ideas on hte ones in the dash as i want to upgrade speakers ????

inside the dash they are only tweeters about 3" or 4".

some people just disconnet them and put in some aftermarket tweeters.

watch it when you take off the grille the hooks are prone to snapping off.

FR-Rush - not quite true, i'm afraid.

Sports models get a 6 1/2" speaker in the front door, and a 1" tweeter in the dash bonded into a clip-in mounting ring. Lower spec models got a full range speaker in the dash, being either a 3 1/2" or 4" size, I forget which. It's NOT a standard fitting, so any replacement will be a custom fit (or require a custom mounting ring). Sony do (or certainly used to do) a custom fit 2-way, not sure about other options, sorry. A 4" speaker will never shift much air though, and the location is less than ideal for a mid/bass unit as the speaker fires directly upwards at the screen - so this may be quite a pricey upgrade for not much benefit.

Pioneer do a door and dash set for £50 and the come with the fitting ring as they are custom fit for VW.

doesn't help much if there's nowhere to mount the door speakers though, does it? not all mk2's had speakers in the front doors...

no door speakers just the dash speakers need to do the upgrade one blown so will need to ding our size i guess adn get replacement

i beleive they are 4" in the dashboard from what i remember looking at mine

The hole in the dash is 4" diameter, but as above, it is a custom fit. Ask your local ICE supplier for options. I know Sony used to do one (and probably still do), and there are probably others.

Thanks didnt realise thatb these would be so hard to get old of just thought a regular 4 " speaker would slot in nice.....

have you got the 6x4 holes in the back either side of the parcel shelf? I would be tempted to bang a decent set of those in and just fade all the music to the rear speakers. Connectors should be tucked behind the carpet on the side of the boot.

Finding a set of decent sounding top of dash speakers is a tough job, or if you want a direct replacement you could just go to a scrappy and get some, cost me a £5er for one on my old ibiza

yeah already got the 6x'4's omn the way a set of infinity so they should sound quite nice wanted something to compliemnt them in the front though as opposed to the standard ones. going to haev a look this weeknd at the speaker try take one out then take that with me to replace it...
