Hi everyone obviously keeping my options open to the seat sound upgrade but I just wondered if anyone upgraded there speakers with aftermarket ones ?

What size are the speakers in the Leon MK3.5 fr? Front and rear.

Can you get to the tweeter behind the column and upgrade them?

Are the speakers glued in and would you recommend sound deadoning to be fitted at the same time ?

What are the standard rms power rating of the standard speakers ?

Can you put in a centre speaker without having to have the head unit settings changed ?

And finally can the standard head unit run an amp to in turn run a subwoofer ? Anyone had an underseat one fitted to save space?

Cheers everyone and help would be great on this

No you cannot add the centre speaker or the sub without changing the wiring and the infotainment configuration

The only way you can run an amp is via MOST if you have a virtual cockpit, or via a high level output taken from a rear speaker channel
Thank you so much for that mate how does the subwoofer work for the seat sound then? What is the actually power for the seat one ? Thanks mate

The Beats sound system was also available with CAN control. We have it

From having looked at this in great detail- without a lot of hacking of wires and taking feeds from speakers etc, it’s just not worth the hassle

It’s much easier to just get the kit from @East Yorkshire Retrofits or pop up and see him (which is what I did), have a lovely old day at the seaside and then drive home with massively improved sound! The Seat sound setup is honestly great.

In fact I’d argue you’ll hear better results from the Seat sound kit and spending the leftover budget on soundproofing/damping the doors than trying to hack in aftermarket stuff

Standard front door speakers are 8"
Personally I find my standard system decent - I have really nice amp and sub sat in my cupboard at home from previous car install - I sometimes think of fitting them - but then think I'm quite happy as is, and would rather not compromise my boot space.
If I did want to upgrade - I would be doing sound deadening first before any speaker/amp etc...

You should definitely do some sound deadening to doors. Especially the midbass quality quadruples with only sound deadening. I did vibration dampening and foam.

What size are the speakers in the Leon MK3.5 fr? Front and rear.
--- fronts are 8inch circular midwoofers
--- rears are 6.5inch circular mids

Can you get to the tweeter behind the column and upgrade them?
--- I am assuming you are talking about the A-pillar (=column) and yes you can get there and upgrade them, BUT...

Are the speakers glued in and would you recommend sound deadoning to be fitted at the same time ?
--- the tweeters are glued in the A-pillars. Sound deadening is mandatory if you want to do your equipment justice.

What are the standard rms power rating of the standard speakers ?
--- don't know, somebody please answer this

Can you put in a centre speaker without having to have the head unit settings changed ?
--- Nope, for a reason unknown to me, the Pin Assignment will change, so if you add hardware, you must change software

And finally can the standard head unit run an amp to in turn run a subwoofer ? Anyone had an underseat one fitted to save space?
--- Yes, you can have the HU feeding into an Amp into a Sub

MIB2 is capable of 6-channel output. When car have 8 speakers those channels are distributed like that:

1. front left tweeter
2. front right tweeter
3. front left woofer
4. front right woofer
5. rear left (combined)
6. rear right (combined)

When there is a Seat Sound System parametrisation the distribution looks like that:

1. front left (combined)
2. front right (combined)
3. rear left (combined)
4. rear right (combined)
5. center
6. subwoofer

That's why when upgrading from 8 to 10 speakers you have to connect front tweeters with front woofers :)

Good evening all,

I hope you don't mind me dropping in here. I'm facing sort of the same situation as @Leonfrdiesel184, although I have a very simple audio system in my FR. There's no markings of any brand, so I assume I have the most factory standard system available. I have quite well figured out what I want, but I'm only thinking how to get split wiring into the rear doors for a composet. My plans are as follows:
- standard break-out cable to go with 4 speaker signals (front L+R and rear L+R) to an Audison AF M8.14 bit 8ch DSP amp to actively power front and rear compo set without the use of the crossovers. This means, I have to bring extra wiring to the rear doors for the tweeters.
- LF-output wil go to a Hertz HCP1D mono-amp, which will probably in future be replaced by an Audison AF M1D.

I'm not worrying about the cabling of the amplifiers and the speakers, only about the rear doors.

Does somebody happen to have a detailed wire schematic of the Leon 5F 5-door?

Thanks for reading. When it's better to start a new topic, please let me know.

Regards,
Mischa
