Spring & Damper kits or Coilovers?!?

Can someone recommend me a good budget spring and damper kit, I dont think I want to go down the coilover route, I would love to but the practicalities of work and driving to my house mean that anything lower than 40mm would cause me problems, added to that the idea of changing anti roll bars just makes it something I dont want to do.

I would put some original shocks and springs on but the cost would be near on £400, where I know that I could in theory get some coilover on for sub £200, and put them at the highest setting.

Are there any good spring and damper kits out for sub £300 that anyone has tried?

In and ideal world for me I would go with Eibach springs and Koni FSD dampers, but sadly these are over budget!

Help and advice appreciated!

Funny enough fitted my front coilovers last night, anti roll bar is ok, dropped the front as low as i could go without tyres catching the splash gaurds

Cheers Damian, and Paul.

Should I just bite the bullet and go for coilovers, I know I will regret it if I dont in reality. Will I be able to get away without using spacers if I am sticking with the standard wheels for the time being?!

Paul, I commented on your E38 thread about which coilovers you went for, what's the ride like, as I need it to be compliant due to the mileage. Also anything I can put on them to stop the siezing up?!

Are the JOM oneas any good or are they cheap for a reason and I will have to replace them in a year?!

Sorry for all the questions!

The JOM coilovers are a budget kit but for the money they are good value and do also come with 2 years warranty.

mmm decision time I think.
I am going tio get another set of top mounts and spring caps as one of mine has been damaged in the past, New rear top monts too, as I have the Leon Squeak.

Do the JOM or any other coilovers come with bumps stops or do I reuse existing, if so will replace these too.

Before collecting the rest of the bushes for change as well.

i have literally just replaced my coilovers... and can vouch for Jamex ones. £200 for the whole kit, but you will need top mounts for the front if yours are old.

I reused mine as they were in good nick.... VERY comfortable compared to my old ones (although they were shagged)

rear is lowered 35mm standard, and the front is 30mm standard. going to let it settle and then lower the front more as it looks odd atm.

Big vote for jamex... 2years warranty and £200. Win.

Have been looking at the jamex ones too, I need a bit of ride comfort as my little girl will complain!
Top mounts are new at the front, replaced last week! Going to fit the coils myself though I think!

Just in the middle of fitting some AP coilovers i got from Damian they only drop the car 30mm to 50mm, seem to be a good fit and east to do.

IBD im going to be changing to coilies soon - shuda done it straight away as all my cars had coilies. Instead I went for a 40mm drop on Koni. Rides great as youd expect, but I want it a tad lower (always the case!) so ill flog on my konis if you want, or dont make my mistake - know what you want and stick to it!!!

Just deck it on coilies, we all know it makes sense!! :D

You'll need rear bump stops but the fronts have ones built in.

For the money it's a very good kit and goes uber low. As with all coilovers the ride is stiffer but it's not harsh. Good buy.

Not to bothered about being slammed just lower. For ride comfort, springs and dampers
