Hi Everyone,

Just thought I'd let people know that the MK4 issue with springs might have coming back.
My offside has just gone whilst driving, made one hell of a bang/twang. .Thought the engine had gone at first. My car is an 11 plate FR CR with approx 50K on the clock. It is first half coil that has snapped.

I saw someone resurrected a post from 2013 earlier in the year but didn't want to add on to the bottom of such an old post.

I have been quoted between £180-£240 for both sides (there are a lot of garages in my area so they all try to undercut, some give "loyalty" prices).

That issue will never go away until they start fitting GRP springs as Audi were meant to start doing some time ago, not heard any more about that though! I'd guess unless they add "soft" rubbery protection over the top of the GRP, then a new chipping/cracking/breaking issue would start happening.

Is that price for parts and labour, I'd hope that they would replace both springs, both top bearings along with the upper spring plate as the design of the bearings might have changed since your car was built. Also a few nuts and bolts as they will be "once use" only either due to being self locking of due to the torqueing method used, ie bolts stretched.
