I was saving up to re-surface all the roads in my area but found the Koni FSD option much cheaper.

Hee hee - good one!

My Cupra had a vehicle inspection just before it was sold and I had to take the inspector guy out for a 10 mile drive. He was horrified at the state of the roads by us, some of the worst he had ever seen and he covers the whole of Scotland.

At the mo I feel quite happy with the FR just because it is much better than the Cupra, saying that, I haven't been home really what with my Dad dying last week, I've been based at my Mums.

It is good there is an alternative to the problems though.

Simon, the shocks we removed from my FR required a fair force to get them moving I.E. a high "breakout force" thereafter they were ok. i think the koni's have a lower breakout force so allow easier movement over the small bumps.
Anyhow I am pleased, especially now the faulty windscreen has been replaced.

Chris

Nice one Chris def cheeper than resurfacing all the roads around here.

I know what you meen about the breakout force they are stiff to start with guess that mine are now operating in a different position being 40mm lower.
and that it shows two different solutions to the problem i knew i was always going to lower the car as it just sits too high standard for me so thats the way i went.

what was wrong with the windscreen was just looking at one that looked like it was starting to delaminate this morning and had a defect in the bottom edge.

The windscren had a bubble/dimple right in the line of vision. I have just spent a couple of hours polishing all the scratches out of the bodywork after the dealer "kindly" washed it for me. It will only see the dealers again if there is no alternative. I.E warranty stuff and electronic fault diagnosis.

i spoke to my local dealer reg changing the oem set up for suspension and they were quite happy for me to change it, but advised it may affect my warranty later depending if it was related to the change.

Well for me it was either get rid of my, at the time, two week old car or change the shocks as it was causing real pain in my lower back. Seat customer care basically said tuff and advised me to contact my dealer and reject the car. My dealer basically said ok give us the keys and we will see what the lawers make of it. the attitude from both means this will be the one and only Seat I will own.So I changed the shocks to make the car usable for me. it should only , in my case, affect any warranty directly relating to the shocks themselves.

Demon G - which springs are you ordering, and if it's not too rude to ask, how much do they cost (front and rear). Let us know how you get on.

If anyone else changes the springs it would be good to know whether it makes much of a difference and whenther you think it was worth it.

Thanks.

was also wondering ???? springs or shocks ??? or both for most comfortable ride, but until three cars with each mod is tested back to back I dont think we will ever know, springs much cheaper option but is it enough for a better ride.
I find up to 60 mph the bounce is not to bad but on a bad motorway its like being on a horse ffs !!! that tends to make me think the shocks would be the best to change but am guessing...any other opinions ???

this topic has got me a bit concerned as i'm intending to go for mk2 fr tdi on 18's later this year. i normally leave my cars as they come from the factory ... just how much more harsh is the mk2 on 18's as oppose to my mk1 on 17's?

Never having driven a MK1 I can't answer your question, all I can say is that it proved unsuitable and painful for me. I will now only buy a new car if I can have at least a two day test drive. Having said all that I am enjoying the car (it's a sort of love - hate relationship) and have spent a few hours polishing it to a mirror shine and it looks brilliant, drives well and has plenty of power.
No car will suit all drivers and perhaps it's just my age showing.

I was going to go for the Eibach Pro Spring kit from Demon Tweaks at around £165.00 delivered to my door which I thought was quite good.

The good thing with the Eibach's apart from being a very good spring is that they are still black like factory and they lower the standard FR by a further 15mm into the bargain without being too radical.

The reason I am going for the springs only option is because I only want to soften the ride slightly and am not too bothered about a full on touring car look especially as it's the car my wife drives mainly so 15mm lower is perfect.

I didnt find mine any worse than either my ibiza fr ,mates cupra and cupra r with the standard suspension just standard vag ride.
Changed the springs on mine just because it was too high for me side effect is a better ride quality. :D

Let us know how these compare to the OE set up. I agree with all the comments and like CT said I'm having a love hate relationship with the cat because of it. Springs would be my prefered options because of the price and the added bonus of lowering the car slightly although I ultimately want more comfort.

I have just changed my Passat for the FR and don't think that the ride is that bad really.

It did seems alot harder for the first few days but then you hit the gas and forget all about it.

I know loads of people complain but performance, handling and 200 horses.. What more can you ask for.
