Stalling TDi DSG

Thanks for that. No mine has only stalled a couple of times from cold. Refused to start and locked me in last weekend when I tried to get out... LOL. Other than that. It can be lumpy tick over for the first few seconds sometimes but after that it's OK. I did wonder whether my dealer could have sectretly re-programmed it when they had it in for hours just swapping the headend out.

Sorry for digging up an old thread but it seems that I have this problem, identical to the early posts so I'm off into SEAT to get the new ECU software. Has anyone else been troubled by this ?

My car (2.0 TDI DSG) has stalled twice when reversing in just over a years ownership, so I wouldn't say this is indicative of a problem. However, since the last service in May at my Seat dealer I've noticed the power delivery on light/medium throttle to be far from smooth, especially when the engine hasn't fully warmed up. On some occassions it's almost akin to driving a petrol car with "kangaroo petrol". The other day I was sat waiting at traffic lights and the idle was all over the place. My hunch is that it's the EGR valve or the ECU, but the dealer will examine it on Monday so hopefully will get it sorted.

Well mine is actually in at the main dealer at the moment, I'll let you know what they diagnose as the problem. The service guy did say however that there is a software update and he will apply it if it has not already been done.

I never know whether my dealer secretly applies these.... I don't really have a stall problem. I give it a slight rev before putting the DSG in D when cold else it can stall, but other than that. That slight rev is just to check that it's not going to cough and stop, but nothing like what you would do with a petrol. ie. I just up the revs slightly, foot off and put in gear, only from cold.

New EGR valve fitted as the original was faulty and remained closed, this should have fixed it according to the service guys. The ECU showed an EGR fault code which went with the new part.

It is not fixed however, there is minimal smoke from the exhaust now but it has still stalled whilst sat in D at lights or junctions when the engine is cold and below about 70c.

The dealers were excellent when I walked back in, very sorry, very surprised, came out for a test drive, watched the problem, drove and experienced it for themselves, tested all the auto combinations with a mixture of the foot brake and handbrake, D to R etc, said this one would give him a sleepless night, he'd have the car for three days and I could have a courtesy car for the period.

Superb customer service, just hope they can fix the problem.

Excellent when the fault manifests itself as my cruise control fault did when the guy returned from a test drive with it by himself and treated me as someone who didn't know how to use the cruise control. He offered to go out for a test drive with me then sort of withdrew it and went into the use of the buttons etc... I said no we'll go out together, two roundabouts up in MK and it failed and he spent the next ten minutes fiddling with the control as I drove it and we kept loosing speed as the cruise didn't cut in . It's been good since it was sorted a couple of years back now.

Dealer reported that no fault codes were logged, but they have installed a software update. So far, touch wood, this seems to have rectified the problem.

Kind of bringing this up again, but not the stalling part, as mine was sorted by the dealer long ago and has never had a repeat of that, but over the last couple of months, it has been running very lumpy some mornings when first started up and more smoke than usual.
This only lasts for 30 seconds or so then runs normally, but it feels almost as if its missing to start with.
I don't know if the aftermarket air filter has affected things, but I'm going to clean the MAF just to make sure that its not fouled with any oil.
Anybody else had similar?

Well according to the dealer my car is now fixed, they have installed all the latest software and assure me it's ok. A cold start when I collect it tomorrow and I will know for sure.

They've given me a new Leon in the meantime, what a horrible car, both to drive and travel in, reminded me of an Astra I had back in 1989 ! and also how much better the DSG box is than a manual.

LOL, that will get the Leon boys upset with the post .... not forgetting those guys that like to use the gear shift or lament that you don't have paddles on the Altea DSG, well we know Clarkson is a plonker but why do the rest of the petrol heads have to sit in a car, put the ESP off and look for the paddles just because Clarkson is one. Paddles, petrol heads, Clarkson and plonkers go together, although that very nice Jason Plato drives a Leon so it all can't be bad.

I really must leave off Google images .... one that your average Leon owner might not like .

Well it seems fixed, new EGR valve and full software update. The new software as well as curing the stall seems to have made the gear changes even smoother and possibly a fraction quicker. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

hmmm see I'm never too sure whether my dealer doesn't do these upgrades in the past when I've taken it in. I did report once that I had problems, but that was like in year one of the car. It doesn't stall now unless perhaps on a very cold day and I try to take off quickly without letting it warm up or just doing a check that a slight press on the peddle isn't going to stall the engine.

I see Shell now have their premium diesel fuel now available like BP, I bought the normal and that seemed to be improved as well .

DSG, it was one of those days driving in around the outskirts of London and then in. DSG being a dream in stop start traffic and town driving . Got there in half the time that public transport takes [like two hours].
