So I ave had this issue for a while now, since having the thermostat and injector wiring loom replaced, I am sure it is a fuelling issue. If I try to start the car it is really rough and then once it kicks in it blows loads of smoke out the back and dies after about 30 seconds.

If it turn the key about 4 or 5 times waiting for the glow plug light to go out each time, the car starts pretty much straight away with little or no smoke, but I need to keep the key in the cranking position for about 20 seconds so it doesnt die.

Now I noticed the other day when I was doing this, when I turned the key to the position before ignition, I could hear the fuel moving from the fuel tank, and it sounded like there was air in the pipes.

Can anyone help with this.

Thanks

you need to do a code read first mate
the glow plug wiring loom plays up and may need replacing
if this is the case you will get glow plug faults on code read

I have got the torque app on my phone and have checked for any faulty and nothing shows, have replaced the glow plugs and this hasnt resolved, and also replaced the battery for a higher powered one, and this didnt resolve the issue.

The only bit that was new to me was hearing the fuel travelling through the pipes, makes me wonder wether when it is sat for any lenght of time, fuel is returning back through the pipes and its struggling to start due to lack of fuel, which would exlain why letting the glow plug light go out a few times would make it start as it would have pumped fuel back into the lines.

they all make a surge noise when you switch the ignition on from the fuel pump
check the glow plug relay which is located by the pollen filter
or even do a amp drop test on the glow plugs
