Static electric shocks!

Is it just me or is anyone else afraid to get out of there Leon R as you get electrocuted if you touch the door to close it?.

Seems everytime I get out my car I get a right static shock!

I have the cloth seats and even tried wearing different clothes but I tend to build up electric charge!

everyones resistance to electricity is different, thats why
some do and some don't get em.
I can measure your resistance if your that interested, but it may hurt;)

To avoid static build up a decent earth path is required to dissipate
static charge build up away.

Saul:the reason why some get static shocks off office equipment is
that they expel a leakage to earth (earth leakage) especially computers.Ever thought of getting a new job as a dynamo!;)
You can get a static shock by touching something at a different potential to yourself(either you are statically charged or the material you are touching)

I get shocked (electrically) every time I get out of the car. I'm scared to touch it.

When I waxed the car I was supprised at how much of a static charge it created. The cotton polishing cloth fibres were sticking to the car.
Might have to get one of those eathing rods you used to see as a kid hanging off the back of Ford Escorts!!!

the touching the metal and getting out has solved the problem but there are ocassions were you forget (take this lunch time) and you get a shock out of the blue which is worse than when you expect it!.

I get em all the time in mine, noticed it more in the last month or so, didnt really notice it over the winter, so maybe its atmospherically (long word for this time of day!) related as well as seats / clothes etc.
I will have to try the "hold the door then get out" routine - I assume you still dissipate the static, just dont get the initial arc across to your finger. Its either that or start wearing wellies :D

i don't think the weather has helped, its got really bad on mine over the last couple of weeks, and now its got colder and rained again, its not happening so much.

mind you i got them off of my discovery as well, and great chunks of that were aluminimum, and a huge wodge of steel thrown in for good measure :)

Install a anti static strap like the antistatic strap mizter.
They ground a vehicle and dissipate static electricity.
