I have a problem with the radio etc buttons on the steering wheel, the ones on the right work erratically, but none on the left. I have checked the connectors, switch pcbs etc, but cannot see anything obvious. I assume the the connections go through some sort of slip ring in the wheel, but it is not apparent how to strip down further. Has anyone had any similar problems they have found a solution to. I suppose it could be the the radio itself, the car did not have one, si I bought an original Alana from Ebay. Also in the top radio connector there is only the yellow button data lead, I thought all these cars had a cd changer lead pre-installed as well. Again any advice would be warmly welcomed.

I have a multifunction steering wheel on mine, so i assume you never had the buttons working at all then ? possible it could be the radio head unit? maybe you could get this checked out if possible before getting deeper in the steering wheel. i cant be of anymore help but hang fire one of the others here will no doubt have some more input.

Just bought the car for my Daughter, the radio had been removed before we got it. If it was the radio at I would have thought it would not respond at all to any buttons, rather than intermittantly to the right hand ones. My feeling anyway.

If the same buttons always work when the wheel is in a certain position I'd be inclined to agree with you on the slip ring front. If it is the slip ring, then the brushes are probably gone and replacing the slip ring will be quicker/easier/cheaper than trying to repair a slip ring.
