What's your opinion on this? Just a nasty stone chip or could be a fault with the paintwork? Just remove the #s as I haven't made 15 posts yet or would someone be kind enough to post them further down?

Good clear photo that.

Looks almost like the paint had been peeled away by the impact, had plenty of chips but never seen that before. Doesn't look normal to me, as Ken says the paint doesn't seem to have adhered to the metal - i would take it to the dealer for them to take a look.

I'll take it back to the dealer, thanks for your opinion! I wouldn't have minded a normal stone chip, things happen but several people have said they've never seen that before. I've got to get some paint sorted out on the boot anyway as it was damaged at the factory and they hadn't painted it properly so it needs flating. Seat have already admitted a fault, I'll keep you guys updated.

That is definitely not right! We had something similar on a Skoda once - the dealer re sprayed the roof for us free.

Certainly does look like contamination under the paint. My guess is the machines that sprayed it had just been cleaned with solvent and not air dried off so it's spat a bit on to the car. Just a guess though with the robots probably starting at the front of the car.

Sorry but I think your making a lot of fuss about a stone chip, all be it a nasty one. The stone has hit with enough force to damage the surface of the metal, If the metal has yeilded to the impact, what chance would the paint have.
I know it is frustrating but if it were me I would just get it fixed. I would be amazed if a dealer will repair a stone chip for you!

I'm not fussed about paying to get it fixed, myself and others just have never seen something like this. I was just wondering if it was a factory issue, anyway if they fix it for free it's a bonus. Others may have had the same problem, stone chips normally dent the paint and chip it rather than take whole sections off.
