Strange dashboard dial problem

Folks,

Anyone ever seen an issue where all the dials on the dash fail temporarily but the MFD (computer display) keeps working?

I thought I'd better give my Leon FR DSG a run to keep the battery charged since its been sat on the drive for 10 days in all the snow and ice and I'll not be doing much driving until the New Year.

The engine started fine but I noticed the fuel gauge didn't come up. Strange but I have done 250 miles on this tank so maybe it needs filling up. I drove out on the the main road then noticed that none of the dials were working. MFD was fine and showed 50 miles to go on the fuel. i'm not sure about the other dash lights.

I drove to the next island and turned back home but after what was probably 5 miles in total all the dials suddenly started working and it has shown no problem since even though I started and stop the engine 2 or 3 times and drove around for an hour.

So is this a winter quirk or should I expect to total failure soon

i would say mate it was probably lack of electricity as captain slow would say , give her a good blast and get the alternator charging the battery and all should be fine.

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I came across what I think was this on Saturday on my Leon Mk2 FR TDi. It didn't start first time, and second time (when it did start) the dials all dropped to zero just after starting. I had no MFD though (although it briefly came on and went off again as the engine fired).

Leaving it overnight and trying again on Sunday morning, it failed to start first time but did second time (again) but now dash operation was restored. Identical thing this morning. I've booked it in to have it looked at, so hopefully it can be confirmed it's a non-issue - or just needs the battery replacing - rather than an expensive electrical fault.

Will report back...

I had my MK2 2.0TFSI on a battery charger yesterday for about 90min. (In offical BMW Service carage)
When it was almost fully charged (only 1.9Ah going in), i took the cables off, started the car and...
The handbrake light started flashing and this beeping sound came few times!!
All the dials were down to zero, but the MultiFunctionDisplay(?) seems to work, at least i see the trip meter rolling, range, consumption, outside temperature, clock...
Tried to reset it, by removing groundwire (black) from the battery for about 10-15min.
Hook´d it back, started the car and nothing was changed...still dials dropped to zero.
(Clock did reset and trip)
Drove it 5km to home, left it standing over night and started it this morning,
that flashing handbrake light and beeping was gone, but the dials are still down to zero...WTF?!
It´s about -12C in here and yesterday i washed the car and let it dry that 90min when i charged the battery.

I´m going to have it check´d today at my friends VAG service, at the same time when the left rear door locking issue should be sorted out. (doesnt lock/unlock, window doesnt work)

I´ve loved my car, but this year has brought some problems and i´m getting pissed fixing this all the time...!!

Yes, i know it´s a 2007 and 72000km on the clock, but still..."enough is going to be enough soon..."

Update, VAG service didnt get the rear door locking / electric window problem sorted.
And they didnt know what to do about the dials.

So, the car was left outside at -15C for the night,
but this morning when i started it up, all the dials came back to live!?!
Everything seems to work, only "sounds" are missing from the blinkers and tyrepuncture reset....
