Okay - will do mate. I'll put all the details on here when it's sorted (if it's sorted ). I know how useful it is being able to search these forums :)

if im free and the weather is good, ill wipe the intake pipe off and clean the intake im not going too indepth with it, the things only done 33k and its only started since its dropped really cold

£22 for the ECU relay :( Thought someone said it was a tenner. Well, I'll pick it up tomorrow anyway......

You got off lucky! My Toledo needed a whole new ECU (£800:censored:) I didn't get it though coz the car is only worth about a grand. It was a diferent fault, but still...

Hopefully that will be the end of it anyway.

Fixed :funk::funk::funk:

It was the relay. In the end got a mate at work to look at the relay under a microscope and he spotted a crack in one of the solder joints - really hard to see though. I had already cheked for this and I couldn't see it before. So many people did suggest the relay as well - should've done that first as advised

Just resolderded the joint and hey presto car drives like new again :p

Thanks to all for their input on this one and long live the 16V!

Sorry - it was the ECU relay. Top row of the two main rows, third in from the left. It has a no.30 on it. Labelled no.3 in the diagram posted above. Case is black. You just need to reflow the solder joints on the little PCB inside - no need to buy a new one.

HTH - let me know if you need any help - just so happy its working :D

cheers Scos.
I'll give it a go tomorrow. Number 3 is labeled up as the power supply relay..but I'll give it a shot anyway.
The missus got me a soldering kit today for my troubles, so fingers crossed :D

Have a really close look at the solder joints with a magnifying glass. The crack was very difficult to see on mine. Also try wobbling the pins of the relay and see if the joint moves - that was visible on mine. Failing all that I reckon it's worth reflowing the joints anyway. Gotta try it to at least eliminate that from the enquiries....

the one with the number 30 on it, is apparently the power relay

seems fine.... looked under magnifying glass, and tried to see if anything wobbled or was loose... nothing

My VagCom log did say that I've been having Lambda issues...

I've cleared the error codes anyway, and will refit everything. Will tackle again tomorrow

Agreed - it looks okay in that picture. But mine would have done also. On mine it was one of the small solder joints to the left of your pic - you could move it ever so slightly by wobbling the pin. I would reflow the joints anyway if I were you - or buy a new one if you're not that confident with a soldering iron. But if you've got Lambda issues then maybe that is the problem?

i've cleared the log, i think the lambda issues are just a result of the kangaroo-ing down the road because of the engine issues.
will take the car out for a spin later, see whats going on, and re-scan the car to see if it comes back.
will re-solder that point too

also got a timing gun from a mate, to see what the score is from that point of view.
already checked the spark plugs and they seem fine...

[edit] just read this http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=146772
used to run tesco too, till i got an asda fuel card, so will look at the probe tomorrow

well, seems just re-seating the relay, and checking everything seems to have helped. car seems to be running smoothly so far.

finger's crossed. at least I've posted pics of the bit's and bobs. hope some one else finds something of use.

cheers scos :D

UPDATE : :(
Eventually changed the relay today, even after re-solding the relay - still same symptoms, so I now have a spare rely for anyone wanting to test their car or buy it off me.

Took the car down to the dealers so they can look at it, my gut feeling is a new Lambda probe, but I aint got the spare time to go trouble shooting :(

Q: how many Lambda probes does the 2L 8v have? (AGG engine) - ANSWER : 1 [Mork]

I'd have thought 1, but the dealer services desk said it might have two, I wanted to laugh, but I've not looked at that part of the car.
