Tried BP Super or whatever its called today, FR Petrol has just hit over 1000 miles and don't know if its me but it is flying!! Think it's mad a massive difference, just pulling so much stronger.

Any thoughts?

I know "apparantly" there supposed to run better on it

I work for Tesco, in our petrol station, My 1.2 ibiza runs ten times better on BP Ultimate which is 95 ron, than our super unleaded which is 99 ron.

BP Ultimate, cleans your engine and whole fuel system as its burning the fuel, so thats why i think it might be the better fuel. But at 105.9ppl (BP Connect, Meir, Stoke on Trent, 1/8/07) compared to Tesco 99.9ppl (Tesco Meir Park PFS, Meir, Stoke on Trent), you get what you pay for. I get more power and more MPG, dont know about you.

BP Ultimate is between 97 and 98 RON. And also I cant see there being a noticable difference between the two when tested in a standard 1.2.

Bilston.
Isnt it just more octane in the fuel and hence it burns better. The bigger the flame combustion the higher the pressure the faster the pistons move the quicker you brum brum....

Octane is resistance to combustion, how it helps it that it ensures when it does combust its hot enough so that it burns slightly faster.

Useful to stock knocking (early combustion) on hot turbo engines. Also useful if the engine has been tuned to run on higher octanes. A standard 1.2 would notice next to no effect, unless it was just generally **** quality fuel

Sort of, depends of several other things as well.

Turbo or N/A, how far advanced/retarded ignition is, compression ratio.

Also what market the car came from. Japanese cars are far more likely to be set up for higher RON as they get 100 straight from the pumps.

Americans it can vary but can be in the 80's.

Europe are similar to us (but pay less for it [:@])

A new civic type-R will run better on it as would an Astra VXR, but IIRC the Vectra GSI (The 3.2 non turbo) doesnt care really. My Calibra (V6) didnt care much either way.

yup im a v-power man and have to say it does make a noticable difference and personally i prefer it to bp ultimate. the car runs a lot smoother, personally i dont think its really making it run any faster but i get about 10 - 20 extra miles out a full tank, i assume this is coz crap petrol burns away quicker / more easily?!

I think they use different octane numbers. UK 95 RON is something like 91 octane in their system, so I believe.
