Suspension Creaking and Banging

Over the last few weeks I've noticed a creaking noise coming from the passenger side front wheel area of my FR when going over speed bumps etc. I kind of assumed it was just general flex.

Today I went over a speed bump (quite a harsh one) at no more than a couple of mph and heard a loud creaking suspension-sounding bang come from the front end, felt it through the pedals too. I was pretty concerned so I pulled over to have a look.

Checked around the spring and generally the back of the wheel etc, and couldn't see anything obviously wrong.

Anybody had any experiences with something like this?

For the record I take speed bumps slowly as a rule, due to a few issues with alignment and tyre wear, I also avoid potholes like the plague. The car is about 15 months old.

The warm weather could be making the coil springs snap

Look close at your springs right at the top and right at the bottom to see if one of the coils has snapped off.

Or it could be a drop link on it's way out.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll have a double check.

It's pretty difficult to see the tops of the coils, the bottom looked ok, but I'll have another check in the daylight tomorrow.

I went into the dealership to get it checked out. They had it up on the ramps and gave it a check over but were unable to find anything wrong. They let me come and have a look with them too, which reassured me.

It hasn't done it since, so it might have just been one of those one-off things due to a weird set of circumstances. Everything cold, turning on full lock, speed bump etc.

The guy who dealt with everything on the service desk did seem concerned from the description I gave, and credit to them for fitting my car in as soon as they could, which was excellent, especially with the bank holiday looming!
