my dad arrange some recovery truck to pick the vehicle up next week rather than driving it there to the nearest garage...god knows how much this repair cost ><
"Has anyone had this happen?" - oh yes lots of Fabias, Polo 9Ns and Ibiza 6Ls will have had this happen. As said already, it needs both front springs changed also both top bearings (this one will have lost some of its balls already when the spring broke) and quite a few bolts and nuts. I've no ide what it will cost as I sorted my wife's Polo myself. On my wife's Polo, the off-side spring broke at half height and the car could not be reversed up a steep driveway as it was scooping up the gravel chips! It broke as I reversed out of the garage. I drove back into the garage and scratched my head, pop'd the bonnet and thought "is it meant to sit that low?" !
Or if you're not comfortable driving it with the engine if it's about 300m unless it's up a steep hill why not get a few mates round and push it up the road?
i noticed the problem when i was just moving the car around in the driveway, quite alot of knocking noise when steering, before that the car last time went out was fine, then we parked on the grass for about 2 days, then i thought since we probably won't move it for another 6 days so i move it on the driveway, after i noticed the sound i probably done about 500yards, test drive it and see what it was, then i left it from tuesday till now.
there is a bit of hill on the way to garage lol also its quite alot of traffic there.
