Switching to super unleaded

So may sound dumb (but the stupid question is the one you don't ask ) So I've owned my cupra for about 5 weeks or so now, been running her on Sainsbury's 95 ron unleaded since I got her. I don't work for Salisbury's but work at their stores on a daily basis so its convenient for me to fill up there and get a few nectar points while I'm at it lol

I'm thinking of changing from their 95 ron to the super unleaded 97 ron. Is there anything I need to do in preparation before changing? Running the tank to reserve so to get the most of filling with new fuel I guess, what about the fuel that remains and how they react when mixed? I also noticed on the fuel cap there is a sticker that has 95/98 ron so I assume anything between is fine?

just run the new fuel as normal and stick to it, ecu will adapt over a couple of tanks.

Usually vpower for me as the cars very modified so really needs the higher ron fuel to run efficiently.

They will mix fine but running the tank down with mean when filling up with 97ron it won't be diluted down by the 95 in the tank. Not that I think you will notice much difference anyway??

99ron is whats recommended in these cars, 97 isn't good enough. If you look at the sticker on the petrol cap it shows what to use.

And yes the difference is noticeable. Car runs far smoother and pulls better with V-power or Tesco Momentum in the tanks. V-power feels better in mine by far.

So I've read a little about the tesco momentum fuel just now and it also contains cleaning additives aswel as being equal Ron value to v power. There's a tesco fuel station near me so I might go for that instead. Now to sign up for a tesco club card...

I use tesco as BP is the only other super near me and its a lot more. Never had a problem with tesco 99

There's a thread on here that proves you get better mpg with 99 against 95

You will also get better performance

My car is standard, You will notice a difference once the ECU has adapted to the higher octane fuel,

The ignition retards when cheap or low ron fuel is used.

53 litres usually costs £75 @ 139.9 and I get 320 miles ish

53 litres of 95 Usually costs £71.47 @ 134.9 and I get 280ish

So per litre in 99 it would do 6.1 miles

Per litre in 95 it does 5.3 litres

So for 95 Ron to do the same amount of miles as I get on 99 I would have to used 60 litres @ a cost of £81.44

This is based on my Leon so others may be different

I will have to give 99ron a try. I used to use it in my old 200sx and my m3 but both needed it all the time as they were tuned for it and my old mondeo st24 made no difference with it. I normally get about 30-32mpg commuting so if I get more I will know straight away. It just annoys me having to pay an extra 6or7p for super plus!!

It will take a couple of tanks to adjust but bear with it I bet you get better mpg and performance

I think I'm going to try the tesco 99 momentum. After a fair bit more reading from what I can see is

V power is tesco momentum
Bp ultimate is Sainsbury's super

Without trying all I guess I can't really judge but for a nooby like me I would say a good test is run 3 tanks of tesco then 3 of Sainsbury's after, then 3 of v power and get to track mpg
