Synchromesh

Afternoon all

I picked up a 54 plate Ibiza Cupra yesterday with 48k and I'm having a couple of problems. The most annoying is a crunchy gearchange between 2nd and 3rd anywhere above 3000rpm. It seems a lazy or worn synchromesh could be the culprit. I believe putting the wrong transmition fluid in can cause similar symptoms though? I know from experience that VAG gearboxes are picky about which oil goes in them.

Is this a common problem with Ibizas of a similar age and mileage? Anyone else had the same issue?

a common problem is the gear linkage, where the cables stretch it can cause poor gear selection

wouldn't hurt to change it anyway then you know it's right -- not expensive and just scrounge the 12 point "key"
