i agree with EL, tom your cooler is doing a good job, its only a hose that has popped off, cold happen with any kit if the clamp isnt tight enough. as you know i havnt had a problem with mine and im sure we kick out the same turbo pressure (1.7 bar)

I'm just a bit disappointed the lower pipework isn't flared or beaded of some sort. Will try and sort the clamps down harder than ever next weekend when I have the opportunity to get to it all. Didn't realize this power would work them off as they we're tightened up extremely securely from day one.

But still thinking of going BT one day anyway, so don't be surprised if you see a Forge big race jobbie on the car one day soon

Sorry to hear about the bother your having with the car mate.

Got to say though your engine bay looks sweet! I'm really fighting with myself not to get a 3" TIP before I have the cash for the cooler, then it'll be both together. :D

If you do get a big turbo and new cooler anytime soon I know a man after a FMIC ;)

Not to knock the quality or ability of forges big race cooler but i think a better setup can be had with a custom job
I have worked out and got pics of my proposed rote from phillc's car, i have also managed to find a large cooler with 2.5" inlets and slim enough to fit behind the crash bar and almost to the bonnet catch
End tanks on it are small so shouldn't protrude out too far blocking new route
This will have to wait a few months before i start it but if you are in no rush i will keep you informed as and when

Cheers for the nice comment mate :D Still plenty to do bay wise though!

I'd say get both at the same time, less fitting cost if you don't do it yourself, or just nicer to do more at once yourself if you can get both! The 3" TIP looks like a beast really. I'm just annoyed I can't do any logs until the car is running back at full boost again... :(

Hmm, no doubting your plan here Ronin, as I know you have a good understanding of the technical side of these cars..
How does the route differ in the lower pipework, is it 'more free-flowing' as such? And do you think more efficient as a result?
I don't even know the inlet size of the large race cooler forge do, do you? Is the surface area greater on the cooler you have found?

The route will be of similar flow but shorter overall length, so little bit less lag
The surface area of the core is greater but the depth is less so it doesn't interfere with crash bar and can come further up
Give me a few months to gather the required bits and i will update, but until then my shopping list will remain a mystery

Ah nice one. Sounds like you've thought this all out!
Mystery shopping list sounds great.
I do worry the big race one from Forge would cause a bit of lag

I'm in 2 minds what to do at the moment, but will definitely be checking out your fmic build for sure.

Also very interested :) Ideally I'd like a decent size FMIC but thin enough not to have to cut the crash bar or the bumper. I'd like to keep the fogs too, don't want much do we? :)

I think the big race one by Forge is thin tbh, but it is mahoosive. I am tempted ;)
Could even put my fogs back in with one, but might just leave them out for airflow reasons..

Is the Forge kit no good (not the big race one)? I got good gains with mine :)

Forge kit is good mate, big race is ideally for big turbo'd LCR's but chris toone had one on his stage 2 LCR and never felt lag problems etc.

Standard Forge one performs very well as seen on here many threads. Yours did alright didn't it few weeks ago!

Oh and Ad you will have a PM in a min or so! ;)

I'm sure they're both great but they're very expensive, not everyone can justify spending that much on mods for their car (me for one). I honestly have no idea how some of the folks on here can just go and drop a couple grand at a time or more on big turbos, hybrids, mods etc. I'd personally have thought if you had that much disposable income then just buy a better car, that's what I'd do if I was that lucky but then my experiences with my LCR have been pretty much entirely negative so far.

I reckon a custom/generic FMIC plus the pipework and whatever bits are needed to hold it all together can probably be done for just over £200 and like I said, am sure the Forge kit is great but when it starts about £600ish for the standard one I couldn't even look at that personally.

Not like I'm on a poor salary or anything, I'm an IT professional but as I get older and my salary goes up I seem to have less and less disposable income. Oh well :)

Please note that the above isn't directed at anyone in particular, nor is it intended to cause any offence or cast any aspersions on anyone's financial standing etc., just an observation. I'm always chuffed for anyone who's bought a new bit and is pleased with it :)

Oops, sorry t0m, bit offtopic :)

No probs matey, I like a good old debate anyway, feel free ;)

I've chucked money at the car recently, but today it all felt worth it!

Here's my update then:

1. Full service done this morning, new NGK cool spark plugs, 7 rating went in. New oil, oil filter, fuel filter in :) She fires up so quickly now, loving the plugs.

2. FMIC lower hose leaks sorted out. Machine tightened up and all cleaned and checked over.

3. N75 was UNPLUGGED  And this was the route of my requested boost not being met by the car and feeling 'unmapped' and slower than standard!
Well I'm glad to report it is absolutely FLYING again! It feels awesome. Faster than before, must be the service and the effects of the 3" TIP aswell. I'm back in love with the car just like that

4. Also made a start on the oil/boost gauge setup, but only halfway ran out of time today. However, it ended up with the car having the N249 bypass done...

All ready for the SCN south east meet over lakeside way tonight :D

Good stuff mate!

Pleased to see you got it all sorted. :D

Wish I lived a bit closer so I could pop down and check it out!

Cheers mate, I'm back in 'plant your foot and stage 2 grin mode' again :cartman: :D

Certainly would be a drive down from where you live! Tis a shame, would like to check out your LCR, I'm always interested in seeing other examples around like yours and the regulars on here.

I'm going to see how the fmic lower hoses do in terms of leaks now mate, if it holds I won't have a reason to sell it. But just recommend if you buy a TX, get the pipework beaded/flared and machine tighten on the clamps so tight they will never come off!!

In love with the car again, drive home from the meet tonight was fantastic, easily the best this car has been in the year I've owned it now. 1st time I've given it welly with the 3" TIP fitted and it really has changed the whole 'dumping' sound, there is some chatter off the dv when you lift off and it just sounds like it's sucking in so much more air than before. It would be really interesting to get it on the rollers again right now...

Thinking of ARBs next though coupled with strut braces too. And probably some brake upgrade of some sort!

Watch this space.....

Good news Tom, really hope it lasts this time, mine too! Ive started to notice the chatter too, especially when at low speed in a high gear and building up the boost with a bit of throttle. Sounds immense dont it :D

How was the meet?

You will LOVE the difference the arbs and braces will make ;)

Cheers mate. I think it will this time!

The chatter sounds mad, really can't believe how much when you ease off. It just pulls and pulls so hard now though, can't believe the speed I was picking up on the motorway on the way home.

Yeah the meet was alright, but very very cold! Big turnout though.

Ahh stop it, I feel pressured into buying the ARBs v.soon lol. What front strut brace are you running, the S3 one?

Yep, S3 front, Hughes rear. Then R32 front arb and neuspeed rear. Do it ;) you know you wanna, would compliment your coilovers well :)

Yeah that's pretty much all the items I'm after ;)

PLUS the full Superpro bush kit too....... Want all of that done within the space of a week. Then the coilovers will have been complimented
