Hi all,

I was wondering if you could help. Ive recently bought a 2001 Leon Cupra, took it in for its Cam belt and prior to this it was running smoothly, no noise at all be it hot or cold.

Went to collect it and has a HORRIBLE tapping noise!! They said it could of been because the previous owners put on a cheap-o oil filter and the tappets didnt have enough pressure once they had fiddled with everything fitting the new belt. Its only on idling, as when revs build it goes away...............
Theyve put on a proper oil filter and its still the same, so im going to go collect it!

Is this a common problem, can anyone suggest a solution?

Many thanks,

Andy

Sorry, whats the charcoal filter?
& yer, this is my worry! So I may just take it to Seat, and if its a problem that happened while they did the belt then ill give the dealer bill to the garage!!
Hopefully its nothing that bad?!

why not just take it back to the place that did the cambelt, worst case could be a tensioner not done up properly or a roller, oe a bolt not torqued properly... all will result in a snapped belt and we all know what happens then.

the longer you leave it the less likely they are to sort it for you foc.

The carbon canister will tick when the engines not running to, if you undo the fuel cap and release the pressure this ticking will stop.

I'd get the garage to sort it, like James says if its a tensioner it could cause real trouble.

Its been at that same garage all the time - they dont know why its making the noise - muppets! Ill mention the Tensioners etc. But if i take it, get another garage to sort it and it is something like that then least i can bill the original garge for their poor work!
Thanks for your help.
Andy

youll have difficulty billing the original garage for any work done by another... tell them to find out why its making the noise, and redo the belt change, cant take risks with a dodgy belt change... take it its a cosher garage?

ps- ill record the noise and try and post it. but its a tapping sound, the mechanic there said it sounds like a drop in pressure to the hydrolic tappets - hence why the change of oil filter............... but that didnt solve it!
The day before it went it, it just did a constant 260mile run, no noise before or after, and nothing the following day.

so it made the noise before the service?

must be cam related then, or they disturbed something along the way

did they do waterpump aswell?

try post that noise matey, make it easier to diagnose.
