Tapping noise on accleration

Hello guys I have recently bought a mk3 Ibiza Cupra and it has developed a tapping noise on acceleration its not there on tick over. I have tried removing the engine cover and this has not resolved the problem. Anyone got any ideas.

If not does anyone know of any good seat specialists in the Wiltshire area?

I have searched the forum but none of the threads seem to sound like my problem

the 1.8T is naturally quite tappy ion idle anyway i find. but i can think of two things it could be.

1) have you checked your oil level? if it's low it could be causing the engine to tap

2) is your exhaust secure? mine is touching the heatshield and making a horrible fast tapping when i accelerate. i'm taking the heatshield off this weekend!

How would I be able to tell if the sound was coming from the heat shield its there an easy way to check this?

I have checked the oil level that seems fine

yeah i will have a check for that does anyone have any other ideas of what it could be i was thinking of taking it to a dealer to have it checked out

I checked the heat shield but I could not see any marks.

I took it too my local seat dealer today they where not really much help.

They think it could be the manifold to turbo gasket that is slightly leaking and causing the tapping noise while the engine is under load. The technician guy said not to worry about it until the sound gets worse.

Get a 17mm spanner on teh bolts and tighten them up, they come loose for fun.

Sounds like a manifold gasket, I had this on an old ST24 of mine - ticked like mad

Yeah im going to have a look in the morning see if i can feel any gas escaping I did try and have a look earlier but its bloody hot after driving.

Has anyone take there exhaust manifold off before? Plenty of WD40 I would have thought??? What else do I have to replace if I take the manifold off ????

Sorry to bring up such an old thread but aint much point starting a new one as its the same topic.

Just noticed over the past couple of days that my engines getting tappy, checked the oil the other day and it was on the minimum so i topped up and its all fine and sitting on the maximum. You can hear it on idle and its definatly coming from the under the rocker so i presure the tappets causing the noise, i checked the injectors aswel but there quiet. Its more noticable when driving, i can even hear it above the spool up sometimes, sounds like a dirty diesel lol, its not very loud but i cant help but hear it now lol. I can think of 2 things to eliminate it: 1, replace tappets and 2, use thicker oil

Ideas lads?

Myki why would you want to use thicker oil? Standard oil for us is 5w 30 (costs way too much btw) but if you go with thicker oil that won't get everywhere it is supposed to.....

As for the ticking sound I read the thread and your explenation, but I have trouble understanding what you mean. Many of the descriptive words for the parts are so different as to what we use in Dutch that I wouldn't know what you are talking about.
However if you can hear it above the spool then it gets annoying. I also know what you mean by "I can't help but hear it now" I have that too....whenever something sounds different as it always did bothers me like crazy until it stops lol!

Only said about thicker oil as ive heard that mentioned in the past, not on this site tho

I don't know if you should risk that though....anything that is not lubed properly might get seriously damaged...like your turbo....

Im not going to risk it dont worry, ive seen some additives that help reduce tapping so i might give that ago, got to be worth £5 lol

Coming from the right hand side of the engine?

Cam chain tension and cam chain gettin worn. Mines pretty loud now, it gets like it after a certain age and if you run it low of oil.

Yes phil its towards the right hand side of the engine mate. I am on 83k now so i guess i have to expect a tap or 2 lol, just wierd how it came on all of a sudden thats all

But changing the cam belt won't fix that then??

Nothing to do with cam belt, this is the cam chain, which is on the other side.
