been advised by Dozza to get a panel filter and remove the flap in the intake..

been looking on the net.. can get a green filter for £40 delivered but is it me or do all the TDI range have the same Part number??

is it the same filter for all TDI??

What's you car...a beezer TDI130? If so just get the Cupra intake pipe (larger) and stick with a clean stock paper filter, since "performance" panel filters (and others...) will net no gains on these engines - rr proven.

It may give a slightly nicer induction noise, but will do next to nothing powerwise...

A BMC CDA Induction Kit on the other hand! ;o)

They're around £150 tho... If you've got the cash then they're about the best thing going.

Just do what i did and spend less than a panel filter on some decent ducting pipe and open up the airbox inlet to accomadate it. Get induction noise and more air in the engine for a fraction of a BMC CDA.

The BMC CDA looks awsome but will net no gains either on TDI engines... The other week had the opportunity to see a Golf PD TDI150 with such an intake measured on the rr and the figures were exactly the same as any average PD 150 (as I already knew anyway...). The intake owner got a bit disapointed and ended up selling it.

What is great about the BMC CDA though is the great roar at wot you'll get - amazing stuff!
You'll also have to worry in not getting the air filter too oiled up after cleaning or the MAF will get clogged suffering performance or even fail.

It could be possible but only on really high powered TDI's... I've seen a few remaped TDI's with modified intakes and they also netted no gains whatsoever.
But the rr runs all occur under wot so no part-throtle benefits analysis.

IMO the benefits from a free-flow intake/filter are mainly better accelerator response/pepiness when turbo is off-boost (<2.000RPM) a slightly quicker spool-up and a great intake roar under wot.
The minus are getting the MAF dirty due to oil particles acumulation and even some cases od small dust particles getting through and causing some damage on turbo blades, etc.

Perhaps we'd better tell some insurance companies to stop charging more for performance air filters!

Still recognised as one of the (first) easy ways to increase performance, however small that might be in reality. I have seen better exhaust manifolds give far bigger increases that the rest of the exhaust, but most people continue to overlook this and concentrate on the exhaust itself.

I should add that from several stock/remaped 1.9TDI's I've seen measured on the rr with "performance" panel filters or intakes (ex:BMC CDA) only the remaped Beezer's TDI130 (the same should apply to the Fabias TDI100/130) netted any gains (some 3-4bhp on upper rev range) since their airbox stock intake pipe is quite restrictive, hence the Cupra TDI160 having a larger one.

On the airboxes/air snorkels shared by A3's, Golf mkIV's and Leons mkI there are absolutely not restrictive (if the stock paper filter is clean enough) up to very high bhp levels.
