I spoke to a friend who is a master chief tech or somet at VW and he ways the sender has 2 sensors as such. 1 which sends data to ecu and one to the guage. The guage apparently works off a resistance so a loose connection back on cluster or sensor could explain a few thing.

climate control might be just pulling same readings as the ecu wud be doing.

Gonna pick up a genuine sensor check wiring and stuff see if that helps
 
Got my new sensor fitted this morning, straight away the guage reading temps pritty much the same as the climate control reading.

Only time will tell i suppose, mine was a intermittent fault so will report back next few days.
Note to self tho let the engine cool down more than a hour unless u want slightly warm water in your face lol
 
Alright peeps, ive cracked it!

The climate panel was reading a constant 90 when at running temp the gauage would still wonder about below halfway. Ive put a new thermostsat in and its sweet as a nut!!!!! [B)]

Sorted job then.

I think this must be what I need, was it expensive or hard to fit?
