Temp Gauge not working.

Slight coolant leak which i usually refill from the min line to the max line once every month, but forgot this time caused the engine to overheat. after this the temp gauge started acting funny a few days later, eventually becoming stuck at random positions (showing 90 degrees after leaving the car over night before even putting the key in) 90 then later 50/60 now went completely dead, not moving at all.
when checking the car with an OBD scanner it's showing the right temp is normally climbing and not overheating, I've already ordered a new thermostat + a kit for identifying leaks, but cant imagine that solving the gauge issue.

any advice appreciated.
