Thanks offitmassive. I'm thinking this is the first logical approach to the problem but it always amazes how many different things it can be when you get a problem with your car!
Hi Lee, quick further question if I could? I quite often lately get the smell of coolant when the car reaches 90 on the sensor or in traffic. You think this will be rectified with the new stat as well? I'm worried my fans aren't kicking in?
I must say the bit I don't like the look of is the draining the coolant part! I've just put some in only recently so will try to recycle it - and the drain tap is apparently under the bumper that looks quite inaccessible so I don't know - I love it more if there was a way to do it without draining the coolant out. Had a quick look into the engine bay and can't see the stat, but I need to not look half rs'd and actually take the engine cover away. Did you damage the dipstick when you did the change?!
Well I have a few links to follow so should be fine but just gathering information. I need to man up and just get it done - all in the planning. How did you do your coolant; did you just drain it all out or did you pull the sensor out and then do a top up job?
Yeah I did the temp sender the same way and it was a bit messy but better than trying to muck about with the radiator drain tap! Sorry; did much come out with the stat and was it proper messy? Did you wait for it to stop before you put the new one in or just slapstick it about with gallons pouring?! (That was how my temp sender one went!!)
Thanks I appreciate your advice
