The dreaded turbo actuator rattle 1.5TSI

When refitting the rod/clip I would suggest using some high temperature paste/anti seize - as they can seize solid, common on the 1.4's to seize and stop the waste gate working.
Maybe they made the later version looser - so less chance of it seizing - at the expense of more chance of it rattling
You don't need to replace the clip. The high temperature grease is enough to stop the rattle and stop it from seizing. My son has a 2017 Ibiza which suffered a seized rod, I'm guessing four years ago. I worked some grease into the ends of the linkage and it's been fine ever since.

My car is a 1.4 tsi. Not had a seizure but the linkage did rattle. The grease stopped the rattle and it hasn't returned. Again, that was four or five years ago. I intend to add more grease once a year but I've forgotten about it and never done it.

You don't need to remove the clip or even be looking at it. Just put a rubber glove in and work some grease into the linkage with your fingers. Too much won't do any harm. You want the correct Loctight grease and it's expensive but totally worth it as the problem is solved.

Hi is there a way you can show how you have installed this? Also how long have you had the clips in? Iv heard in a lot of forums that they tend to fall off very easily. The sound is driving me crazy. Can hear it whilst travelling at low rpm
I’ll try and post a pic, had them installed for a week now and they’ve not moved at all, maybe others have used a different clip hence why they’ve fell off. The ones i got still allow free movement of the rod but just take up the slack enough to stop the rattle. I was also wondering about them falling off but after a week they’re still in place

Update, because of the negative review I left about Crewe Seat, they have been in touch and said this should have been booked back in and repaired under warranty, and even if it is declined under warranty they will fix it free of charge as a good will gesture. I sent them pictures of the " turbo wastegate rod repair kit " and said if there's not a fix, why is this advertised as such

I have the same rattle, has anyone found a TSB for this?
I bought mine at the beginning of the year as approved used, its been in once for the rattle and they have tried to hide it instead of fixing it.
When I go back I want a bit of information to give to them.

Hi Andy, mine goes in on Tuesday for the “ fix “ so I can’t really help until then, but I’ll post here my findings on what they’ve done

Bit of a late update, Crewe Seat have done the repair and the rattle has totally gone, I reported my boot latch mechanism was sticking and they even fitted a brand new one, all free of charge 👍

Thanks.
Mine went in today, luckily I went for a drive with a tech and he said "wow, that's bad"
They are keeping it over night to fit the same parts.

Anyone have a video of what the rattle sounds?

Notice a rattle mainly obvious when the car goes In 2 cylinder mode

Hi everyone. I dont have a Seat but i do have 1.5TSI Golf Estate which has the DADA engine.

I have only owned the car for a few weeks and noticed recently the rod rattle primarily on start up and occasionally when the car enters 2 cylinder mode so was on the hunt for a fix.

The excess vibration is what leads me to believe the reason for the rod rattle as it doesn't happen when the car is idling or driving normally.

I joined the forum to pass on my experience with the mentioned above clips (9mm)

Just fitted these from aliexpress:

These are the 9mm versions as mentioned above: https://es.aliexpress.com/item/1005007389376633.html

They even come in a nice little box

IMG_6963.jpg

Can confirm these are a perfect fit and slot into place nicely and snug but still allow adequate movement and can be rotated freely.

Started the car up and seems to be fine.

is this a long term fix? Probably not but for very little money its worth a try if anyone is dealing with the same issue.

I also purchased the same ones and it fixed the rattle, but I decided to pursue the issue direct with Seat and managed to get the proper repair done under warranty 👍

Update, the clips arrived, fitted in seconds and have stopped the wastegate actuator rod rattle. Very happy at a £10 fix compared to a couple of hundred quid at the main stealers 👍
Which ones did you order please mate? The rattle on my 20 plate it wrecking me! My dealership told me it was a characteristic of the car when I had them look at this a year ago!

I dug my heels in with Crewe Seat, it's clearly a design fault. I went armed with pictures from the Internet showing " actuator rod repair kits " to which the dealership then agreed to fix it as a warranty repair

I told them it’s a common fault and to do with the actuator to help them…As was in for servicing and when I went to collect the car asked them if they had a look?

Clearly hadn’t looked into it so went back to his colleague and he came back with that answer.

I knew I could’ve kicked up a fuss as like you said there’s kits out there and a bulletin for issue afaik.

I would have respected him more if he just said no we didn’t get a chance to look into it.

Really warranty fix like you said but I’ve got bigger issues I’m trying to get them to look at LOL and I’m struggling to even get them to.
As i have a warranty also.

So for the sake of having to go back and forth.
I’ll just buy the clips and fit myself thankfully not expensive to buy and looks simple enough to do 🙄

Don't give up my friend, keep pushing until you get it fixed under warranty 👍
