Hi,

New to this forum but quite a regular on uk-mkivs.net. Currently own a mk4 GT TDI 110 Golf

Thinking about buying a Leon FR TDI, less than 2 years old with about 20k miles on the clock; just wondering if there was anything I should look out for when looking at cars.

Also, is there anything likely to go wrong over a matter of time that's classed as a "feature", like the window regulator clips breaking on the golf and the water pump going at the 60-80k miles mark because the fins are made of plastic, etc! I've had a look at the old FAQ so that gives me some idea of what to expect I guess

Thanks!

13 grand with the standard FR bodykit and wheels, 14 grand with the Cupra R style body kit and wheels.
There are a couple of private examples that are maybe £500 cheaper but only with the standard FR body kit.

Do you think this is too much given the new FR is launched in July?

I've seen a couple of mk2 2.0 TDI sports at the 14grand mark but I'm not convinced by the look of the interior and exterior.

Other options are a mk5 2.0 GT TDI Golf or Audi A3. Haven't found any 3 series BMWs with less than 20k miles in my price bracket.

Ideally I'd like to spend 12-13k but will stretch to the extra grand if needed. Will just have to get a larger loan!

i only asked as i have a leon fr going for about your price range.

I'm looking at that price range from a dealer as I have some form of come back if anything isn't as it should be.

You can you post or email me details though and try to tempt me :)

I dont like the ones with the R style bodykit and wheels, prefer the FR style. I payed 13000 for mine, 8k on the clock and 7 months old a few months ago from main dealer. If it where me I would go main dealer. As for the other cars, i dont like the mk5 golf and think for 13k you arent gonna get anywhere near as nice as a car as the FR,(all the golf models looks the same, the base models look the same as the top end diesels, and that big black bumper is awful) and i dont like the look of the mk2 leon's even though they do drive nicely.

agree didnt want alook alike myself, also walked past one the other day and chuckled at myself, when it was ticking over was a diesel, plus they dont have the r interior so looks stupid

I do like the look of the Cupra R wheels and kit but I'm not sure it's worth the premium being advertised as.
I guess it's worth giving the dealer a call and see what they'll discount by, given the new one is around the corner!

But the wheels are 17" not 18", it makes a big difference. I love the R wheels on the R but the R 17" ers on the FR to me dont look as good atall

FR+ should be the same price, I paid 13995 for my 55 reg in December with 900 miles on. Patterson SEAT in Newcastle have the same car now for around 13500. 13-14 k for a 2 year old car seems very steep.

Is this a diesel, he is after a TDI, just your name is seatleon180hp

From a trader:
2004 54 Reg SEAT Leon 1.9 TDi 150 FR
5 Doors, Manual, Hatchback, Diesel, 9,000 miles, Grey. ABS, Adjustable seats, Adjustable steering column/wheel, Alloy wheels, Climate control, Computer, Driver airbag, Electric mirrors, Electric windows, Foglights, Head restraints, Folding rear seats, Immobiliser, Passenger airbag, Power assisted steering, Remote locking, Side airbags, Rear headrests, Sports seats, Traction control. £12,495.

or

2005 05 Reg SEAT Leon 1.9 TDi FR,5 Doors, Manual, Hatchback, Diesel, 15,732 miles, Luna Grey, Anti-lock brakes,Driver/passenger seat height adjustment,Driver, passenger and front side air bags,Remote control volumetric alarm,17in alloy wheels,Remote central door locking,Climate control,Front electric windows,radio/CD,Traction control system,Electric rake adjustable steering column/wheel,Immobiliser,Front fog lights, cloth Sport grid interi. £12,495.

I'd rather spend that with a trader for the standard car given I have some form of come-back if anything is not right. It's peace of mind for an extra 95quid basically. Traders are normally ask substantially more than a private seller but clearly not in this case.

You should be able to pick up an FR+ for the same price as the standard FR's are going for. My local dealer had a mix of FR's and FR+'s all up at the same price 12.995 and all varied from delivery miles to 9k miles.

If you pushed the dealer you could easily pick one up for 12k especially one with over 10k miles....

Dont agree with this...doesnt look stupid without the 'R' interior as it isnt trying to be an 'R' just coz its got the bodykit.

I do think it could do with bigger wheels but then again the standard FR could do as well...

just think its rather silly, like having an escort 1.4 and putting a cosworth kit and fin on, each to ther own really

Not really. The diesel FR offers genuine performance. The LCR front bumper isn't massively differant from the FR one, just better looking.

Anyway the cossie whale-tail looked sh*t even on cossies :p

Put a deposit down on a Leon FR+ (one with Cupra R style bumpers and wheels).

2005/55 reg, PLATINUM GREY METALLIC, 5500miles on the clock, 6 months tax.£13,600

Bit more than I wanted to pay but it was a good car and the cheapest I could find with that kit!
