Thinking of buying a Formentor VZ2 or VZ3. Need the most up to date infotainment

I'm test-driving a deal demo on Thursday; it's a 2020model year VZ2, got the spec I want and it's £36,000, so a decent amount off list. But I've already read enough about the infotainment system to think I'd be better off with a new from stock 2021model. According to CarWow, there are a few available for immediate supply in my area, all around the £40,000 mark, so that's OK.

From the reading I've done of various threads, would it be a fair summary to say that I need to have a unit with a serial number ending in "D", and a firmware version 1803?

@Agnes.Surrey , thanks for the quick reply. Obviously, I won't have time to learn and familarise myself with the system during the test drive. Any chance you could list the touch sequence for bringing up the hardware and firmware versions on screen? :)

Car would be under warranty anyway, so presumably you can get anything fixed by dealerships. I have the new car and its not too bad for me, touch sensitivity is a bit poor sometimes. When you test drive, remember in cupra mode you get the fake v8 sound in the cabin though. I love the amount of tech on it. Travel assist (self driving) and the adaptive acc that adjusts based on the speed limit it see's is cool.

I have found a pdf download of the owner's manual; I'l have good idea how to operate it before the test drive on Thursday.

So have I read this right? I can charge my iPhone wirelessly, and I can interface the phone with the infotainment system apps wirelessly, but if I want to use Apple CarPlay to run my phone apps through the infotainment system, I need a wired USB connection?

Thanks, @steviekek . This is why I asked the question. This screen grab is from page 181 of the owner's manual.

I have never attached my phone to the car via a cable and wireless CarPlay works flawlessly

I have “D” hardware infotainment system on 1790 and had very little problems too, the occasional glitch but I have a good dealer who upgraded to 1803 for me

Did they upgrade because you specifically asked or because your VIN falls within the range outlined in the campaign? Mine is outside of that range.

My Apple car play works without a wire connection, but you must enable it and not use the other Bluetooth connection option.

Hi steviekek I've been in East Kilbride a few times now, but haven't seen your Formentor about yet! in fact I haven't seen another Formentor on the road at all !

I went into the garage and motioned to the sales rep that i got to my car and the doors wouldnt open even although th ekeys were in my pocket. He phoned service and they said bring it round and we will have a look. they upgraded it then.

The door issue only happened the once to be fair so was lucky and my car was not in the vin range

Hi Steven I will keep an eye out for them, as I go to Morrisons at Stewartfield quite a lot. I took my car into the dealers to have a software update for the touch locking, but it only lasted about a week before they stopped working again, It is an intermitting fault which I have had since new! it will always open pressing the key fob, but what's the point of the car having touch locking when you never know when it's going to work or not? Another thing I have happened to me, when I get into the car and put on the IG a message will appear on the screen telling me I am not the prime user? This might be connected to the key transmitter, as that's the only way the car would know who has switched on the IG. So both faults might be connected. But still love the car even with the wee pesky faults.

Cheers Bill

So I am joining the tribe! :)
We drove a 70-plate VZ2 (it's the dealer demonstrator, first registered 01/09/20) and have bought it. I'll pick it up on Wednesday.

I'm picking the car up Wednsday at 11am. From what I've read, and gleaned from here, I can either thether my phone to the car's native apps for radio, nav etc, or I can use CarPlay to run my phone apps through the car, but I can't do both. From peoples' experiences, what would be the recommendation; native apps or CarPlay?
