Thinking of selling my 2010 Cupra R, but what's it worth?

Hey guys,

I've owned my Red 2010 Cupra R 265 for a year and a half and although i love driving it I'm thinking about getting something else, specifically something i can tow with!

My problem is, i have no idea what the value of the car is...

Parkers say £11,500 guide, Webuyanycar.com (why did i go on there?) would pay £8,970, and I've seen the exact same car on Pistonheads and Autotrader for £14,000.

So i have no idea where to pitch it if I do put it up...

Its got 50,000 miles on it, full SEAT service history, etc etc.

Body work is very good, few small stone chips on the bonnet and one small 5mm scratch/scrape on the offside rear fender which i've bought a touch-up stick for but haven't got round to touching up yet (insert Rolf Harris joke here).

The interior is great, small amount of bolster wear/collapse on the driver side, but other than that pretty good.

The bad thing, the satin black alloys have seen better days, for what is otherwise a really tidy car (IMHO) They've had some kerbage (i scraped the **** out of the nearside front two weeks ago, parking at about 1/2 MPH, I felt like a total retard!), and on two of them the black is peeling in the corners, which is really irritating because i had the back two refurbed when i bought it and one is quite bad. I've touched them up with black lacquer paint, if you look close its obvious, from more than 1m its not, a perfectionist would get them refurbished though.

So, ou est le crack as the french say, what do you guys recon?

Thanks!

I would say more around the £11 for private

Surely a dealer won't be able to put a price of £14k since it's slightly high mileage and it's 4 years old.

Yeah it's a tricky one, like you've said they are on autotrader with slightly less mileage at around 14-15k.. So with that in mind I'd probably start around the 13.5k and see what happens? It also depends how quick a sale you are wanting and if you can be patient enough to get what you want for it!!

Nice looking motor tho mate I like the side skirts in black! If you wanted to sell those on there own I'd be very interested?! :)

Since when has Parkers ever had sensible prices other than the dealers sales price!! A book written by the trade, for the trade! They also seem to completely under value any exclusivity. The R is a rare car and for those who dont want to mod a Cupra its a great bhp/£ option.

Its always difficult to value a car without seeing it but......

If it was me (And I have pretty much the same car but in white with the same mileage, FSSH etc) I'd be putting it up for sale around £13k and looking to get £12k to £12.5k
Its just human nature that people always want to feel like they are getting a bargain so always try to cut something off the asking price, regardless how reasonable the price is!!

Only thing I would say is that the alloys on mine are mint as is the paintwork as I've done a full detail on it.

Personally I would have the alloys refurb'd if thats the only thing that lets it down.

Next is the advert. The more detail you have the better, speak about the car specifically and not just the make and model. Speak with knowledge and sell the car as your pride and joy. Always better to see an advert like that rather than 2 lines and 4 pictures. I've deliberately not gone near adverts like that.

I think mine will have for sale signs in the window at VW Fest this Saturday, and I sure as **** won't be selling it for £11k :)

I'm in no desperate rush to sell and I know my car is in excellent condition so if somebody wants it they have to pay top dollar for it (not over the odds but it certainly won't be going cheap) I've seen a few on Auto Trader over £14k

EDIT - Just looked on the Auto Trader and the cheapest one I could see was £15k with 40k on the clock so it's gotta be pitched around £14k imo, maybe with the aim of taking somewhere in the £13k's if you're saying it's got a few little rough edges.

Yeah okay £13's would be reasonable. Problem is when they start going in the 50k+ miles people get turned off.

Yeah there good bullet proof engines don't get me wrong but it tends to be people's mentality.

And if your selling Leigh, I think we need words :D

I'd like mine to stay within the forum because i know it'll get looked after by like minded folk (although they won't look after it as well as i do :)) i wouldn't sell it to something if i thought it would get abused, its too nice a car for that kind of life.

Oli we can talk at the show, bring your money ;)

I bet if the perfect Evo was ready and waiting for you, and some backward cap wearing skip rat chav who couldnt read or write, but had 14k cash in his hand for your LCR - you would rip his arm off!!

I probably wouldn't, money would probably be forged ;)

Sorry I must have forgotten to mention it's 100% legit cash, just don't ask him where he got it.

Any other 'Yeah, buts..' you might think of, assume I will mitigate them too, and just accept you would take the 15k he is now offering you because you drive a hard bargain ;)

Agreed. Thats the sort of money a trader would offer as a trade in maybe but not what they are worth.

As above the figure seems to be £12k - £13.5k depending on condition.
Difficult to give a more specific range without concentrating on a specific car having had a proper look round it.

Must say the residual of the Cupra R is very good. Very few hot hatches seem to hold their price as well, probably due to the exclusivity. The likes of the Astra VXR are available everywhere.

Car

Afew months back I had seen one damage repairable and it looedk totalled and it sold for £8,000,they do seem hold there money well I think in the hot hatch market the normal cupra is the best bargin a good 3k to 4k less than an R just for some leather seats and 19,s plus difuser and exhaust but let's not go there lol !!!
