Wish I could find a way to convince the VW specialist this... I feel like pest going back. This will be the 5th time in total. Any clues on what I can say to show them to convince them?

Thanks

You could try a new coolant sensor some have been proven to be faulty lately on here.
But, slowing down and the temp going down points to the stat.
It's a simple enough job there is a superb guide here if you got a mate who can use a spanner.

also stats have been known to fail shortly after fitment too.

I rather the garage I paid to replace both in April sorted it out if any of the parts have failed. Personally I think it's the thermostat stuck open maybe.

is that 88c according to the ECU via LG/Vagcom etc? what type of driving were you doing

cheers for the replies.

Via my LG all town driving, be doing a 30 mile motorway trip tonight so will post back then but tbh it's always about 87 -88.

I do have my splitter cable now so will try that and see if i can read the LG and the Torque app at the same time.

Right on the way this morning, it was between 82-89 (it seemed to hold 89c when sat at 60mph and only dropping down hill). Outside temp was around 3-4c.
I normally set the climate control to 21c but it seemed a bit cool today at that temp.

Once I got to work after 55 min drive, I opened the bonnet and the pipe that goes to the radiator (top left) was cool. Is it meant to be?

I can't work out if I have a problem with the car or now. Trip computer for the journey was around 54mph, normally on a warm morning I would expect 65mpg+

Does this diagram help at all?

If it goes does when you are driving, it is being over -cooled, the stat isn't holding the temp at 90 (or damn close)

I have just been shown which hoses to check. The left top one is the air con one.
The top radiator hose does get hot, the bottom was cold but this was only up to 60c so the thermostat would not have opened up yet.

Also there was white foaming in coolant reservoir.... maybe I just need a coolant flush?

Thanks.

ok on way home it took 90 mins, mostly traffic but around 20 miles of NSL. Torque showed 86-90c once car warmed up. Climate set at 21-22c and it was coolish.
I got home and checked the bottom radiator hose and it was cold.. does this sound normal?
