To Remap or Leave Standard

After reading RobH's terrible news regarding his turbo going, this makes me worry.

I suppose Rob's may only be an isolated case of a turbo going, hopefully. I would hate to get a remap done, then for the car not to run well i.e. misfire, have a flat spot and then the worst the turbo going.

Its all if's and but's and the turbo could go even with my car running in standard form.

As the warranty runs out in March my thoughts were to get a third party one for another 2 - 3 years.

If someone did go wrong would it just be a case of taking the map off and hope that the warranty company pays out.

Anyone else had any experiences of claiming from a third party warranty company?

Stop being such a worrier ya woman :p

Just get a remap off a company that comes with a swith or module which will allow you to turn the map off or remove the map. Then if you do have any issues you can always turn it off, they cant detect the software!

robs is stg2 + though... i would definatly reccomend bluefin, it makes a good car great and stg1 will be more than enough for you. Bluefin is not as aggressive as other maps on stg1 so power comes in higher up the rev range but it is addictive.

I've had bluefin on my past 3 cars and the cupra is the 4th, i'm not sure if it will make the decision for you but ...

Focus TDCi remapped at 10k covered 54k when sold -no issues
GOlf GT TDi 140ps remapped at 22k covered 52k when sold - no issues
Audi A3 TDi 140ps DSG remapped at 25k covered 41k when sold - no issues
Cupra remapped at 9k now covered 12500 and it still makes me smile :)

That's cetainly a good track record for reliabilty Steve and also nice to see. It puts my mind at rest that you've proven the product on various cars reaching nearly a total of 100,000 miles.

Think you've made my mind up now......7 weeks encounting and the dead will be done:)

Cheers

I'm wondering whether Rob's car is a one off. The Revo RT360 has the $h1t kicked out of it on track and mag sessions and keeps going on and on.

Occasionally you will get an odd manufacturing weakness or defect, and there are plenty of Stg. 2 cars running good and strong.

Looks like that's the case Warren. As you say there are plenty of people out there running Stage 2 - 3 with no major problems.

Bluefin is also the mildest remap there so its hopefully not going to put too much more strain on the components of the engine etc.

i would still get the remap Ricky i dont know if its deffinatly the turbo it might just be a blown pipe but bluefin can be set back to standard incase of unfortunate events .

Hopefully your car just needs a quick easy fix and its not the Turbo. Fingers crossed.

Too true, I think being a home owner and a farther have turned me into a worrying kind of guy.

Anyway after looking a Steve's fantastic track record above puts my mind at rest. I think I awalys just think the worst.

Yeah im sure you will be fine. TBH the people that do have issues every now and again are those guys that dont exactly give their car a easy life if you know what I mean ;)

Just to back up what Steve said, I had my mk5 Golf remapped by Superchips at 7000 miles. It's now at 74500 miles with no issues at all

I would leave it standard Ricky, same as mine :cartman:

At the end of the day, as you say, your car is going to be three years old in March which means the comfort factor of a manufacturer warranty is out the window. A third party warranty will work from accredited garages, most likely not official SEAT ones which means things like ECU's will not be removed and read to see if the ECU code caused a problem. What usually happens with such warranties is that you put it in the garage, and hope/pray they agree to pay out. I had a gearbox done on a Civic VTi I had, but it was nothing as smooth as a dealer repair and I still had the worry of the possible no payout scenario.

From that and other experience, I would read the small print on 3rd party warranties very carefully. If you are still worried, buy a new Cupra R to have a Cupra with a little bit more power and feel safe you have a manufacturer warranty for another 3 years :)

Well after much debate I bit the bullet and gone an ordered Bluefin Stage 1 from JKM.

I got it for £350 including delivery and another £30 voucher for JKM. I already had a £20 from them last year when I bought the Milltek Cat-back and I bought another £20 voucher months ago to extend the life of the other one.

What should I get with the £30 voucher? A revised diverter valve??

Looking for to receiving the Bluefin handset.

Cheers

Its about time, you might want to think about colder plugs with the vouchers although i doubt they're 100% needed, just a thought.

Well its finally done and my Cupra is at Bluefin Stage 1. All I can say is Awesome and its totally transformed the Cupra.

The power delivery is so much different than in standard form.

One thing I did notice though was a slight hesitation on some occasions at around 5,000rpm. Would this be the Fuel Pump or DV.

The car ran fine before the remap so I would think its the Fuel Pump. After reading threads about remaping over the past few months some people suggest not flooring the car and gradually feed the power through the rev range.

I'm really pleased with the outcome and glad that I've made the choice. I think Stage 1 will be more than enough for me. Its the faster car I've even driven.

The insurance only went up. £60 to a total of £450 Fully Comp, with £250 excess.

All I can say its going to be a really car to replace come 2 - 3 years time.

Thanks for everyones input and support in helping me make the right choice.

Cheers

I also forgot to mention that the whole process only took around 1hr 20mins.

20mins to download original file.
20mins to set up Bluefin Software on PC and send details to Superchips.
20mins to download new file from Superchips website
20mins to upload new file onto cars ECU

Just thought the above is a handy note for anyone thinking of the same remap.

I also got the whole process done today and its not even a working day. Someone must have been in today at Superchips.

Good stuff lad. Out of interest, where does all the action start to happen in the rev range? I logged a Bluefinned Edition 30 last week that never really started pulling til after 4200rpm.
