Toledo Tdi aircon prob-No power to clutch

Hi all, wondering if anyone can help please?
I have a 99 Mk2 Toledo Tdi 110 which I recently bought.
The aircon did not work and after a quick look there was no clutch or nut on the compressor.
Bought a clutch and nut, bolted it on but no joy, the clutch does not lock on when the aircon is switched on.
I disconnected the connector and tried with a test lamp to check if there was power there, and guess what, NO power at all.
I have tried a different pump and exactly the same, which i suppose is to expected if there is no power going to it.
So does anyone know what the prob might be?
I have checked all the fuses and all look ok (even though I dont know which is the right fuse for the aircon and switch)
I am at the end of my sweaty teather!! lol
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, tatepie

I am having this problem myself and have had for some time now! What I have found is that if you have no ECU fault codes logged there can be a number of things stopping the aircon working. Basically you must have gas pressure (and a tested pressure switch), the rad fan working, the fan controller working and the "in car" controller fully functioning. There's more but I have been told everything else will log an error code.

There is a list of things that could be wrong that may not show any error codes in the ECU ......

1. With the engine running, aircon on, apply 12v to the compressor and it should then turn. That will show the compressor and clutch are OK. If nothing happens, you'll need a new clutch or compressor (the spindle can wear and the clutch not be able to turn it - or something like that anyway).

Assuming it does spin as expected with 12v applied check these items in order as any 1 of them will stop a voltage to the compressor :-

2. check that the aircon fan is spinning when the aircon is on (always set the temp to the lowest setting to ensure the compressor is being "called" into play). This is regardless of engine temp, but approx 30 secs after starting the engine. If they are not on, then something is telling them not to come on or they have a fault (which should show in the ECU if its a faulty fan).

3. Low gas OR faulty hi/lo pressure switch - located somewhere towards the front passenger side of the car, near to the rad on the metal "aircon" pipework there will be a 4 pin sensor/switch (it can be against the bulk head also - mine was. Also, newer cars have a 3 pin connector which is a bitch to get to to replace but can be done without losing gas). You need to short out the 2 pins that "detect" low pressure on the plug attached to the loom (not on the switch) and they will effectively bypass the switch. Obviously, this could also mean that you simply do have low gas pressure! The pic details the test and the switch pins :-

4. if you have climatronic, swap the panel for a known working unit (and try yours on someone elses car). Easy to do. Radio out, ash tray out, trim surround off, 2 screws to remove panel - 10 mins max.

5. there is a controller for the rad fans - its located by the front passenger side headlight (right hand drive!) underneath the metalwork so best found from underneath the car. You will find it fairly easilly by tracing the wiring back from the fans to it. Apparently that can die and isn't cheap although I've found one on E-Bay for £20 but Seat want £100.

Hopefully it is just gas pressure, but if it is you then need to know where its leaked from - another can of worms best tackled by an aircon specialist.
