i taught the same about the heat shield from jabba i'm getting mine custom made out of aluminium for £120 that includes the pipercross filter :)

Looking good mate. The exhaust looks like a blueflame. Welcome to the slippery slope ;)

Cheers guys, the exhaust is a milltek, just can't work out which one. Not that I know a lot about them  I just know prev owner got it for about £300 as the old one was showing signs of wear (according to old mot certs).

That a panel filter mate? If so, how does it compare to a jetex 80mm closed cone jobby?

not a panel filter open cone pipercross filter 70mm neck though , the guy thats doing it for he supplying the filter, personally i've tried many different , green filters , k&n etc, they don't really make a huge difference to me to fair , but the one prefer for my preference is pipercross seem to get better slightly low down torque

You got a normal cupra then? R's are 80mm aren't they? Surely that's not much cheaper than just buying a jetex filter and a jabba sport shield separate?

EDIT - just seen you added to your post, thanks for the info. Should I expect any change in performance at all, or just noise?

Cheers

Welcome Tom, am I reading double? Same colour as my LCR and you've got the same name, lol.

The exhaust tip looks similar to mine which is the New style Milltek LCR system. When did this exhaust go on, do you know?! As that system was put into production by Milltek around last November.
Mine went on about a month ago or so! Got the full turbo-back though...

Blueflame tip is thicker inside to that of the one in the picture.

Jabba shield is pricey but the best out there, keeps the filter very secure and stable. Looks good and you can run a cold air feed directly through the gap towards the filter. And if you love your car you will spend it ;)

Looking forward to the progress!

p.s nice parking sensors!

Cheers Tom,

Was looking at your readers rides thread, really impressive mate I'd love to be running those numbers at some point.

Yes I was wondering if it's the new lcr system, I'm gonna check the date on the receipt I've got. If so, I'm guessing I can get the silencer removed cause it could do with some more noise at high revs I think.

I think I will end up with the jabba shield :( just have to lie to myself to justify the £90 lol.
yh lcr is 80mm but the the same price as the 70mm any way, its way cheaper, from jabba is £220 compared to £120 you do the math mate :)

Jetex cone filter - £50, jabba heat shield £80-90 = £140-150 :D

Jetex 80mm cone, FC8001 or FR8001 think it is. Check Badger5 section for full details, but I love mine and a whole host of other people on here rate them highly! They flow alot of air, more than your BMC CDA's etc.

Just looked at your pics Tom and your milltek looks exactly like mine, so maybe we have the same one. Not loud enough is it!

Cheers mate, mine's getting there but far from being 'done' - there is always more to spend on!

Defo check the date and let me know. Looks v.similar to my taipipe though! Coops10 has the same system as me, check his reader's ride too, he has pics of the system from the underside if it helps..

Mine isn't that loud, but it's vocal enough for me on full chat and louder than the old Milltek system from what I've been told. If you add the 3" downpipe/sports cat they do it might increase the noise I imagine? I've only ever bought exhausts in complete systems so can't comment too much on a cat-back alone vs full turbo back, but worth thinking about before you cut parts out, lol.

Jabba shield or Neuspeed one is pretty good too. Both not cheap, but one might turn up in for sale section at some point.

Jetex is best bang for buck induction and biggest airflow gains. Apexi and HKS filters are getting more widely used too now, also good airflow and made very well.

Where are you based?

Has it got a Milltek logo in writing ontop of the tailpipe?

I think mine is loud enough mate, but I don't want it loud in my area near my house etc. Just when I open it up..

I did have a Piper full turbo back on my 1st LCR and it was a bit too loud at times for my liking. Maybe I'm jus getting old at 24

Im in basingstoke mate, know it? Yep, as you said it's a slippery slope. I love this car and really want to get some decent figures out of it and do the best I can with it.

I find I get the most noise when dropping from 4k to 3k revs, approaching a junction or roundabout you can get a nice head turning hum from it but foot to the floor it's not got enough for me. Thanks for the downpipe info, I'm new to most of this stuff so any info is good info.

The annoying thing is I want to try and colour all my engine bay mods red, e.g. red hoses but the closed cone jetez filter only comes in blue :( Red looks sweet against plat grey so I may have to look at something different.

Did you notice any performance increase with new filter and shield? Or is it small things like turbo spooling up a bit quicker, and more audible.

Cheers

Yes it does, the same as yours i think!

Yeah it's about an hour an a half away from me mate. Should come to the AmD rolling road day the weekend after this one coming up. It's on Sunday 20th if your interested. Plenty of Cupra's going to be there. I will be there eating the bacon sandwiches nice an early! lol.

Yeah we only want the best for our cars, but a platinum LCR should defo get the best ;)
Buy cheap buy twice and all that jazz! It is very true with alot of the mods you can buy out there.

Mine's best under full chat than approaching a roundabout etc dropping the revs. Maybe having the full system has made alot of difference to the noise. New system downpipe is 3" compared to old 2.75" I believe. Welcome to compare exhaust sound if you do come to the AmD RR day ;)

Your going through the same blue jetex vs red hoses dilemma I did. But as you can see I've carried on with red hoses, red 3" badger5 TIP, red Forge upper boost hoses and when I got my fmic I requested red hoses again. I don't mind the filter being blue. But if you want a red one, get an Apexi mate. Ask Dan (s1 pru) on here more about them, it's either them or the HKS one's he loves and they work well. I noticed the noise 1st of all, but the car felt less restricted than when I had a Pipercross panel filter in standard airbox. Earlier spool up comes from a debaffled charge pipe etc. Forge did sell these in a polished finish, but took them out of production... but they should be back for sale again soon. Coops10' has one of these fitted and noticed earlier spool up/more vocal spool. Mine is polished but not debaffled. It was custom done.

I know a Milltek when I see one, lol.

I think I will just get a blue jetex filter (cheaper than apexi) and continue in red like you have done. After the remap, intercooler will be the next job on the list. With red hoses they look so nice too, when you can see the hoses through the honey comb. Have done a bit of searching on intercoolers but undecided what route to take. At the moment forge looks the best option, but TBH I didn't realise how bl00dy expensive they are.

So much to do, so little money and so little patience :D Can't make that weekend mate, shame. Will do some time though, I've got a mate with a cupra 210 so we're probably gonna going to get the cc remap done on the same day and have a RR battle - although I'm gonna win :D

Thanks for the info mate great to have it here so I can return to it and it's all in the same place.

No probs, that's what your RRide is here for and what we're here for. I started out knowing nothing about these cars. But there is alot to know believe me!

Jetex with red hoses isn't too bad is it? I don't find my bay pics ugly in my RRide, others might but they're too fussy :p It does the job very well the Jetex.. Enjoy the noise the 1st time you drive it, you will be a bit wow'd lol.

I thought the Forge FMIC was a bit pricey so went for a TX FMIC.. Mine was under 400 new off eBay. Sambryant on here is running the same kit. No fitting issues, the only thing I would say if you buy one is to get the lower metal pipework beaded/flared so when you run higher boost they don't ease their way/pop off from the silicone hoses. I had a major boost leak about 2/3 weeks ago from this very area. I've since had the clamps machine tightened on as they we're man tightened on in the 1st place. It was standard when it went on, but I think the jump to stage 2 boost pressure started to ease the hoses off the pipework!! The Forge pipework is flared I believe. But the kit is over £500 to buy lol!
I like the red hosing showing through my lower grills though, looks a tad mean and you can tell it's not standard!

Your mates 210 if that's standard that's a Cupra R right? The Cupra's are 180bhp but map stage one to around 210-215 if healthy, maybe more. A 210 LCR can map to 280+ stage 2 so you will win a battle vs a Cupra. Lol. I'm well chuffed with mine but have upgraded the turbo intake pipe (TIP) to a 3" Badger5 one since I made 283bhp. So it should be pulling more, plus the map has adjusted and I've had a full service on it :funk: lol.

Yeh he has a cupra r but it's a '03 plate, so a 210. Not sure there's much of a difference between my 225 vs his 210, but mine has 40k less on the clock so I expect to pull a few more.

I'm glad I mentioned the intercooler, as £400 sounds a lot nicer on the wallet. Another nice bit of info I can look back on when i come to buying :D

I had a major boost leak too the day after I got the motor, bloody cowboy mechanics hadn't tightened the jubilee clip on one of the hoses :( so it popped straight off while I was pulling onto the M4. All the hot air was blowing up the outside of my windscreen and it sounded terrible

They also didn't screw on the engine cover after servicing it, I didn't notice becuase it was pitch black in the evening when I picked it up and I just wanted to get in and drive it. Not even any screws in the holes to tighten up it just rattles around :(

Bit p!ssed off really because now I don't trust the 'full service' they did on it, but I don't really have the time to drive all the way there to get one done. They were the mechanics at the garage I bought the car from and it's a ballache driving 40 odd miles each way just for them to do another half arsed job.

I'm debating whether to get a decent full service done for £200 odd, before remapping but not sure if it'll be a waste of money or not.

Blue filter looks fine with red hoses I reckon, if in a few months I decide I don't like it I can change, no worries. Didn't realise a single hose was £70 though! Rip off!

You should pull a few more bhp, but then it might be alot closer than expected haha.

With these cars, try get them serviced/maintained by VAG specialists who know the cars inside out. Where I bought mine from, they did the oil service but overtightened the sump nut so threaded the helicoil and the car was pissing oil on my drive not long after!! :(

My mate since fitted a new sump for me about 10 months ago and it's had oil checks/services using Quantum VW spec oil everytime. It's not hard to look after these cars, it's just making sure they go to the right places and they use the right stuff!

Sorry to hear about your boost leak, but hopefully sorted now. The engine cover you can leave off till you get the screws mate. No harm. Loads of people run them without engine covers. I have mine on but have a broke screw on mine.

A full service before mapping would be ideal, if you get decent spark plugs like NGK's put in there, it'll reduce the risk of blowing a coilpack(this is a common thing on LCR's) and you have 4 of them at about 30-40 quid a pop. Servicing is very important if you ask me. Mine gets done before it's due usually! My mpg has gone up since it was done too, I had the fuel filter changed this time around. I had all of the following but at my mates garage and at mates rates:
http://www.amdessex.com/product.details.cfm?ProductID=3850&VariantID=48&ReferenceID=9182

Silicone hoses aren't cheap on these cars I'll be honest, but they do the job so well as long as you check your car regularly for boost leaks and fit them properly. It's still a very cheap car to tune in terms of bang for buck vs say an Evo or a Scooby....

When I bought mine I had it dyno'd at 211bhp and now look at it. It's a different car. The surge towards the horizon on the motorway in every gear is worrying for my license haha. But it is so much fun! Love stage 2. :)
