• Hey Guest💡👉 We have just launched our new Dealer Directory and review service Find out more now
Well I suppose it saves me spending £300 on a remap that's gonna get over written anyway, right? Maybe this is the route I should take...

Decent full service
Air filter with shield
Sports cat/downpipe
TIP
Stage 2
FMIC if cash allows it

Cheers again mate

Exactly... You only need to spend once on a map, which will be tweaked custom to suit your mods :)

Full service is a great start. You said you've got cambelt done already recently didn't you? Was the waterpump changed for a metal one?

I'd be thinking...
Full Service
TIP Upgrade - the Badger5 3" TIP flows more air than Forge's btw. Check my readers ride :)
Forge 007p diverter valve
jetex/jabba heatshield. custom cold air feed if you can sort one out. use 80mm ducting off ebay to do the job..
Milltek sports cat/downpipe (3") so new LCR system to work well with your cat-back.
FMIC
Stage 2 map

However, don't forget getting your power down! Tyres are a massive thing with these cars, what rubber are you currently using?

Brakes, you want these to be tip top for stage 2 power really! Mine have seen better days so I'm gentle on them as I approach roundabouts etc at a faster speed these days lol.

Handling - Coilovers? I love mine!
But I want a front ARB, rear ARB and strut braces yet. Plus most of my wishbone bushes have gone, so I'm getting all of them replaced soon at AmD for Superpro bushes. They do a full kit.

Dogbone mount is a great little mod to reduce the wheel hope mate. And you can get the Powerflex one cheap, I've got this one
http://www.amdessex.com/product.details.cfm?ProductID=3881&VariantID=48&ReferenceID=10179

These are all just ideas, you can of course do things differently and the way you want it. My recommendations are from experience and similar to how my car has gone.

But if your aim for the car one day is stage 2, then don't get a stage 1. Save yourself that money for stage 2 mods. Then when it's all in place and running sweet, map it. Mine was running 241bhp standard on the rollers the day it got mapped!

Cambelt done the day I picked it up mate, not sure if the water pump was done though and I'm pretty sure there's nothing mentioning it on the service history  I heard water pump is a pig of a job too :(

Running michies at the moment, front 2 need doing in the next couple months though they are wearing on the inner edge - which may be a sign tracking and alignment is slightly out? Maybe full service will sort it... I've got a mate at a tyre shop so can get mates rates when I sort new ones.

Aim is certainly stage 2 mate, wasn't gonna stop after stage 1. I think I'll do all that but miss out the FMIC pre map, even if I planned to do it I think I'd just jump ahead and map first to be honest. Temptation 'n all :p It will get done soon after anyway.

Rear discs need doing in next few months, can get parts cheaper and will do myself with my cupra mate. Can sort cold air intake myself no worries, sounds easy enough.

May change my mind, but at least it's getting clearer what to do and why ;)

Where was the cambelt done mate? Usually waterpump is done at the same time, I also got my thermostat done too as they are easier like waterpump when the belt is being done. Standard plastic waterpump can fail and you don't want that... Try get it checked out if you can, chase the people who did that and see if it was replaced for the metal uprated waterpump.

I've got a tyre which is wearing on the inner edge too mate, it's the tracking/wheel alignment. Want to get mine re-done soon aswell. Nice one on mates rates, it's all about that... ;)

FMIC you can add after the map and it will adjust itself really. But FMIC's do a really good job in the summer of reducing the intake temps, mine did by 10-15 degrees average which was proven on vag-com doing 4th gear runs compared to old standard SMIC's.., so try get one eventually if you want all year round performance ha ha :)

Rear pads/discs you don't need anything more than OEM replacements. Front you could go 2 piece disc arrangement or EBC replacements like Ultimax grooved/plain discs with Ferodo ds2500's. They are regarded as the best pads, with the ds3000's the next level for touching on track use. I'm going EBC discs with ds2500 pads on the front in the near future for sure. New brake fluid too, maybe upgrade the brake lines aswell... More expense lol.

It all becomes clear after a while on here mate, the do's and dont's and who to avoid etc..

Sere Motors on here for all your OEM stuff and for brake advice talk to Badger5 Bill! Check his section for all jetex/3" TIP and EBC/Ferodo info, the guy is a VAG guru I tell you!

In the process of ordering my air filter now from badger5 :) and looking for a place nearby that do a decent service. Was planning on OEM rear discs anyway, so that's good to hear.

I seriously doubt they did the water pump too, the way they've done a half arsed job with everything else. I got the cambelt done cheap as well because I wanted it done before I bought the car, it sort of sealed the deal. Wish I'd been on here before that then I could have asked for water pump too :( If the water pump goes, it can be an expensive fix I hear.

Cheers

There's 2 filters you can get, the FC 8001 which is silver ended or the FR 8001 which is bigger and black ended. I'm changing my smaller FC one v.soon for an FR one ;)

That will be a shame if they haven't had it done. It's worth taking it somewhere decent for your full service and getting it checked out mate. For peace of mind more than anything else. If you know it's not done, I'd prioritize it to be done before you remap it to stage 2 anyway! I got mine all done last October for peace of mind before running stage 2.

Waterpump will be no cheap fix if it does go I'm afraid. :(

FC-08001 is the one I'm trying to get hold of. Nice chrome end on it. Maybe I should change my mind I didn't notice the rubber end was bigger :D What sort of price range am I looking at for the pump to be done?

You can buy mine once my FC is off if you want ;) Only been on a few months if that... :)
The FR one is bigger and that's the only reason I'm getting it. I doubt it gives me more if any extra airflow gain, but I'm giving it a go lol.

Well camelt/waterpump changes are usually around the £300-400 all in for both. I paid the lower figure there ;)
I'd expect around half that? I've never got a quote for just the waterpump though. Maybe someone else can give you a more accurate answer sorry. You could call someone like AmD and see what they would charge, as I know the belt/waterpump price all in there was very competitive.

Cheers Tom, I paid £165 to get the belt done. Will ask around when I look at a place to service. And no I don't want to wait that long to get a filter but thanks anyway :D

Yeah, I'd do some research on here too to see who's local to you and rated highly on the forum. You can't beat our advice from experiences :p

Lol that's ok mate it'll be for sale on here soon enough. Hoping to get the new filter within 1-2 days so will be in for sale section by end of the week if you fancy it.

Several people running that cooler mate and all are very happy with it. Have a look in Harty's old build thread to get an idea on what you need to get it all together. I have gone custom route for mine also but a different cooler. You can have a look through my thread also, see if that suits your needs

Air filter on it's way :) service over the weekend hopefully and the next dilemma will be DV vs Cooler with the remainder of this months pay :D Although the more sensible thing would just be to get the front tyres done  that's what I'll end up doing I think.

Tyres, then DV, then cooler mate ;)

Cooler could wait a few months yet with the temps still being low.

Least exciting, but most sensible thing to do I suppose :D I panic about things not being for sale in a few months, so I might buy that toyo cooler anyway and have it kicked around until I get the piping.

Good shout bud. Yeah the toyo cooler people do seem happy with :)
