I got this error that went away after I switched the car off for 10 minutes. I had to traverse a steep slope in reverse about 6 to 7 meters long, could this have damaged something ?

Depends if u reversed very slowly the clutches may not have fully released, which then cause them to overheat.

Could that cause them severe damage ?
Have you checked diagnostic screen since? It's probably a temporary issue due to the reverse manoeuvre.

If it's not showing the warning now I'd imagine it's a one off due to the uphill reverse.

Checked the diagnostic screen hasn't appeared again

Its just prob a warning that its overheating so u dont do any further damage to the gearbox. When i had GTR doing too many launches also came up with errors on the mfd

Some modern DSG type transmissions have a fluid level sensor, so the steep slope may have just triggered a warning as the fluid level changed due to the steep slope?
