I have just done a run with vag-com to see what my turbo is running after a custom map. Its seems to be peaking at 1.64 bar is this good? You have to take 1000mbar of for the pressure of the day (its says 2640mbar)

Red line for actual pressure
Blue for demanded pressure

Is this ok for my car to be running this much boost? It’s a standard Ibiza sport pd 130 running stage 1 custom map.

Actual is a fair bit higher, and not sure if this is normal for a tuned car. I've never logged mine to compare. As a rule of thumb though, for a standard pd130, 1.65 bar is about the maximum boost you'd want - at least on a daily driver, and ensuring a reasonable level of reliability. As a guide, my hybrid is only set to 1.9 bar. The boost level is not the be all and end all of TDI tuning. :)

Ye i thought it was high so i ran a torque test and calculated the bhp. here is the graph

Red torque 283 ft/lbs
Blue bhp 174bhp

The figures seem accurate to what the maping company told me, so i dont see why its not accurate.

so what torque/bhp do you reckon i'm running? I'm new to all this stuff. first time i've ever used vag-com learnt how to doit last night lol, and played around with it today.

Its seems to be running alot of boost 1.65bar, or is that reading off aswell? its only stage 1.

I think the TQ/HP is about right, although your torque does peak fairly early. - It's just the actual VS requested plot which is useless, as the scales are fiddled with when tuned.

what format do you use to do the torque to bhp graph, my brother uses this on his 1.8t but when i did it on his obviously its worked out differently and my car came out at about 300bhp :D if only....

bhp = (torque ft/lbs x rpm) / 5252

you have to convert the torque from nm to ft-lbs to use this formula

Has anyone killed their turbo running it at 1.65bar on a standard pd130? I want to go round the Nurburgring next year, but worried about frying it!

You'll be fine. The stage 1 maps don't really push the car beyond reliable limits as that defeats the object for the majority of bods who just want a bit more power from their motor without a trade off in reliability. The selling point at this level is that reliability is maintained to a large degree. That doesn't mean that they can't have problems though!

Be sensible...... make sure that you're not on ancient oil and keep a check on your levels being where they should be. Let your car cool down properly after a good thrash (ie let it run on idle to allow oil to cool the turbo a bit). Worry more about your own driving ability, your brakes and your tyres as they are in for a punishing time!
