Is that a recent fitment cos I thought the water pump was belt driven

It's on page 50 of that SSP359. There's a coolant recirculation pump V50 which pumps water around the turbo as well as the engine driven pump.
The 1.2 TSI is similar except that since that engine has an air-water intercooler the electric pump pushes water through both turbo and intercooler. On my 1.2 TSI you can occasionally hear it running after the engine is switched off. On the couple of times I've heard it it's been when stopping directly after a steep hill climb.
