Hi Guys

What size rubber should be fitted to a 2012 143CR Seat Exeo Sport tech?

Ive got myself a 2012 Seat Exeo Sport Tech which I purchased from Listers Seat a few months ago. I managed to get a good chunk off the asking price and was aware that the 2 fronts would probably only last 5kmiles before they needed changing. So last week I searched for the tyre size online using both Blackcircles and Seat websites, I entered in my registration number and on both sites out popped:-

18” 225 R40

So I purchased said sized tyres from Camskils and booked the car into my local fitter to have them replaced. When the car was on the ramp the fitter identified that the tyres that were currently fitted to the car were different size all round:-

18” 225 R45

Therefore a different size tyre wall and fitting the 40 profile tyres to the front (with 45 on the rear) could cause issues with the ESP and engine management seeing different speeds and thinking its loosing traction and thus putting it into limp mode or unwittingly wearing breaks out.

I have emailed Seat asking what is the correct size tyre for the car and wait their reply, my issue is if Seat have sold me a car with 4 x wrong size tyres on the car that are not intended for my car my insurance could be vioid. Ive a feeling they will say either 40 or 45 can be fitted as long as all 4 are the same. If not i feel a fight coming on :handbags:

So guys who have a 2012 Exeo sport with 18” rubber what size tyres are fitted to your car?

Cheers

Neal

I have 225 40 R18 on my Sport Tech 170 ST. Car had the original tyres on it when bought (as car was only a year old) and were definitely the same size

Ditto Gw19 - my original fitment tyres were:
225/40 R18 92Y Bridgestone Potenza

My bad, just checked my receipt and i am 40 profile.

As you were.. ahem

Mine came with 225/40 R18 92Y Bridgestone Potenza's on it, and I changed them on purchase, as the fronts were very badly worn on the outside edge. I had a 4 wheel alignment done before the new ones were fitted.

I've covered just over 17k miles on them now, the wear pattern is even, and they look as though they have at least 3 or 4k left in them yet, the rears look like new!

The grip is excellent, and the ride in my 'S' is acceptably comfortable.

I got them for 100 each with fitting at a local tyre place, and I will most definitely be replacing them with the same when they are due.

Thanks for replies guys it does indeed look like I have the wrong profile tyres fitted. My conversation with Listers Seat say that the correct size is 40 but the wheels will fit the 45 profile with only a little speed difference.

http://tire-size-conversion.com/speedometer-calibration/

So at an indicated 60mph I will be doing 62mph.

I did haggle some with Listers for some reimbursement (got to try ;)) saying I may not be insured for my car as the tyres they supplied with the car are not the correct size etc but they refused to say they were in the wrong and reimbuse me for returning/replacing the tyres for their oversight of supplying me with a car with the wrong profile tyres. They ended with the old faithful get out clause of 'oh well sir if you had dropped your car off with us to do the work we would of replaced them with the right tyres' blah blah. I didnt bother to persue it after that as I had been passed to a number of people already.

So next question is do I change all 4 tyres to the correct size (2 x rears have loads of tread) or just change the fronts to the existing tyre size of 45 and change all 4 when they are worn?

I would get stuck in to the dealer for them not checking the car properly before they sold it, don't let them get away with it. Was it a used approved car through a Seat dealership? I would also contact Seat Customer services if you are not having any luck going direct through the dealer.

Defo change all 4, and 225 40 18 is right.

If there is one thing that I have truely come to believe in is that given the tyres are what actually connects the car with the road, follow manufacturer advice /rules and don't go budget (and same applies for brakes given that's what stops you)!

I put 4 Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric's (225/40/R18) on mine from Camskill, about £78 each or something, quiet, grippy, much better than the standard fit tyres!

That's what I've got on mine, paid around 83 fitted each. Car seems to be going well in them.

Goodyear Eagle F1 are indeed an excellent buy, I had them on my Impreza a few years back and of the 4 different sets sets of tyres I had on them, they were by far the beast all rounder.

Think im going to bite the bullet and change all 4 at the same time. Though I will be contacting my insurance company to see if the fitment of the extra wall height tyres would affect my insurance, as if i had an accident with them on it may be a get out clause for them to pay up. If they see it as an issue then I will persue a claim with SEAT as reading their gumph about their approved used cars

Anyone know what their 102 point check involves with regard to tyres?

I'm confused, I read your first post as saying that you have bought 225 40 18s which are the right height ones, so how come you need to contact your insurance company if you are going to change all 4 at the same time. I think as 225 40 18 are more common that 225 45 18 they are probably a touch cheaper too.

In the original post he only mentions replacing the front ones :)

I have Goodyear Eagle F1s on mine, vast improvement over the standard fit Bridgestone. They are softer but more grippy and offer more feedback. Only done 5k on the rears and 1k on fronts so don't know how they'll wear.
