Unneven tyre wear

Eagle F1s on the front always kept at manufacturer's recommend 33psi (which is what Goodyear suggest aswell), I tried 34psi for a couple of days but didn't get on with it. My fronts have worn slightly more in the centre, central 2 markers are on the 1.6mm limit, outer edges slightly more at about 3mm.

This would point to over inflation but this hasn't been the case, confused.

Try getting a geometry test done, bet your settings are outside the "limit" are they balanced ok?

It would signify over inflation but I run the same on my 225 45 17's and they wear evenly, do you do a lot of short journeys that include parking and a lot of stationary/slow steering?

Not really. Think I'll try and check my gauge against another to make sure I'm not innadvertedly overinflating them.

I had similar uneven wear on my Dunlop Sport Maxx fronts. I check the pressures about once a fortnight and also keep them at 33psi. I know my tracking must be way out as the inside edge is completely shot, but, it's not so noticeable in the photo, the outside (left) had about 3mm tread, the middle was down to the wear indicators, the inside had about 2.5mm tread, then right on the inside edge there's next to nothing left - a kinda weird 'wavy' wear pattern...

Having said that, the GSD3's I had previously wore down fairly evenly

By the way, this is after just over 10k miles, 60% motorway, 30% A & B roads and 10% around town / short journeys.

Jonny, that looks very similar to the wear I'm seeing, except without the scuffed inner edge.

Have you guys tried using a digital tyre pressure gauge.
I bought one last trip home and found out the the garage that I use gauge is 1.5 PSI out, showing 31.5 instead of 33 PSI.
We all know that the garage gauges are out but never by how much OR which way.
Digital pressure gauge in Hafrauds £9.99, foot pump £12.99 = much safer car and piece of mine.

I've got a Michelin digital pressure guage which cost about £20 and a Michelin tyre inflator with digital pressure guage which cost around £35. Both read the same, give or take 0.5psi. At the time, they were AutoExpress best buy / recommended which is why I bought them

I never use garage air stations or pressure guages, as some can be as much as 10psi out...

As above, garage guages are usually out unless they have been recently calibrated.

Then again cheap digital guages can also be dodgy as I found out on my old bike once. Cheap digi guage showing the correct 28 PSI for the front tyre but infact it was 36 as I later found out. One small bump on the road, a very long shake of the bars and a change of pants later, the guage was in the bin.

May I recommend these. Very accurate and last a long time. Had mine 5 years+ and does both car and bike

i have learnt by my tyre pressure did 12000 with my pirellis was not happy got a digital tyre gauge. but 30psi in mine. all thought still confused about this issue .Is 33psi the correct psi ??

it is over inflation. when you check tyre pressure are the tyres cold. also do you use the same tyre gauge every time.

if you drive a lcr then its 33psi (2.3bar) all round. if not then 32psi front and 30psi rear

Reckon this is pretty much "normal" for a cupra/LCR as far as I can tell. Two sets on my LC wore this way (tracking and pressures always correct) and the set I just took off my LCR much the same. Never seen any wear on the outer edges first on any LC/LCR tyres.
I suspect the standard geometry is set up to reduce torque steer due to turbo engine at the expense of tyre wear??

they recon i over inflated the tryes not tooo shore if i did or not did it at a garage got a gauge now. do like the left pedal it some times was a bit of a shock after 12000 miles. got some new tryes last weekend then realised they vibration though the steering was not right. tuck them to a diffrent place they did not even balance my wheels when they replaced the tyres. still alittle vibration though the steering i think that's the low profile tyres though. does any one else have this problem

the vibration wouldn't be from the new low profile tyres unless the beads hadn't popped on the rim of the wheel properly. the cause of the vibration is more than likely that the balancing machine they used might not have been calabrated correctly nearly all wheel balancing machines are a min of 5 grams out even when they have been recalabrated. if not then it could be a slight buckle in wheels or warped disks. hope this helps.

the vibration wouldn't be from the new low profile tyres unless the beads hadn't popped on the rim of the wheel properly. the cause of the vibration is more than likely that the balancing machine they used might not have been calabrated correctly nearly all wheel balancing machines are a min of 5 grams out even when they have been recalabrated. if not then it could be a slight buckle in wheels or warped disks. hope this helps.

I seem to remember a whole thread on this a short while ago... but here goes again:

I drive a TDI FR+, had it from new. It's had the OEM fit 225/45 17 (did 12500) Bridgestone, I think , I put Falken 452s on when they wore out (did 15000), just put Falken 512s on.

Each time, I drove for a bit with the recommended pressures (33psi all round using digital gauge), tried putting the fronts up a bit to 34, put them down to 32, moved the backs up and down the same.

And for each tyre type, I came back to 33psi all round. Going off this by 1psi made the handling change enough to be noticeable.

My recommendation is you do the same, try it out on the roads around you and see what feels best. I'm pretty sure you'll come back to the manufacturers recommended after a while

I do a lot of hurtling about on bumpy. bendy roads. I don't think you'll notice anything on smooth straight tarmac unless you are doing highly alarming speeds

just make sure the tyres haven't been driven on when u check the pressures most ppl i know with fr's put 33psi in the front and 30psi in the rear. at the end of the day each tyre manufacturer has their own tyre pressure that they recomend to get the most out of the tyre. try going on michelins web site type in your car spec and it should come up with the right tyre pressures

I notice the exact same, I can feel if the pressures are 1-2psi down, 33 feels best by far.
