Cheers for the advice. It's going in this weekend so will hopefully be a quick and cheap fix!

Cheers for the advice, it's going in this weekend so hopefully will be sorted.

Hi,

I've had a similar problem to this. My temperature gauge has started going down to nothing, then other days it will read 90 as usual. As suggested earlier on this thread I have brought the signal 51 up on the climate control panel. I got the engine up to temperature watching this display, and it went to around about the 90 mark. So the sensor must be working fine but I have heard talk of there being 2 temperature sensors. Is the signal read on the climate control screen the same as the signal which the gauge shows?
It's a Leon Cupra with a 1.8T AUQ engine.

Sorry to be a pain, but if it was the sensor which was faulty surely I wouldn't see the correct temperature up on the climate control screen?

I had this problem in my last leon. Took it to stoneacre in peterborough, and it cost about £30 all in.
In my opinion, if this starts happening to you, just get in in a garage and get it sorted. Its not worth gettting mucky for.

Yep I've already had the sensor out to check the connections at that end. Piece of cake. I took your advice and ordered one on ebay for £8.75 including postage. Less than half the price on euro car parts!

Just to add to this (and hopefully save others spending £25 on a new sender which might not even need changing :()

I've just changed the green top sensor for a genuine VW one due to a wandering gauge whilst the climate control display was showing 90. Strangely the gauge is still wandering but not as much (i.e. it only drops to 85 rather than 70-75). I'd have thought if the sensor was the original problem a new one would have solved it completely, and if it wasn't then there would have been no change in 'symptoms' at all:confused:

Do I need a whole new thermostat or is there another sensor within it? (Have read conflicting things on here).

And where does the ECU gets it's signal from? As long as it's being told the temperature is a constant 90 there shouldn't be any other problems anyway I'd have thought

Just an update on my problem:-
I changed the dual sensor with what I got off ebay. Just a few minutes to make the change and it's been as good as gold ever since.

Could be the thermostat yes and no, there is no other sensor.

It is getting it from the sensor you changed.
There are two signals sent one to the ECU and the other to the dash gauge.

im confused :confused: ive got this problem temp gauge stays at bottom unless if stuck in traffic then goes to 90 but as soon as i start to move it goes to the bottom again.... climate says 90 so would i have to change sensor or thermostat ?? ive ran vagcom no faults showing.

when i first got it i changed sensor and thermostat as it had same prob then i changed the thermo again (twice) when i had the strange water loss probs !!
