Hi all, i'm thinking about replacing my alana head unit in my ibiza as I want sharper sound quality and a better built in equaliser. The sound quality now isn't bad really but i tend to like my music quite loud and this system isn't so keen sometimes:p. I don't want to go along the line of replacing speakers or fitting amps, so i'm wondering if fitting a high quality head unit like an alpine or pioneer would help. Cheers peeps :D

Changing the head unit will be a massive step up in sound quality over the standard unit. The standard speakers are actually pretty decent units! Still, don't expect huge volumes, there's only so much a head unit can do. The speakers will still distort fairly early.

Cheers rich. I used to have an arosa and changing the head unit in that made a big difference and that was with a cheap head unit. I do think the speakers are pretty good but you're right they do distort quite easily and there seems to be a bit too much mid range sometimes, which i can't seem to adjust. I'm becoming more convinced i could get a better sound quality from a better head unit.

i'd recommend pioneer myself, i swear by them. i've got a dual din one in mine, it sounds and looks amazing too, all of my mates love it. i'd recommend going dual din, makes the dash look nicer

it's actually the fact that the speakers can't cope with playing mid and bass at the same time, so they distort a lot easier

get a hu that supports tre, mid & bas control along with hpf and you're sorted! mine only distort when pretty loud now that the sub produces the mass

P.S. pioneer +1 here, but Alpine are decent as well
